Thanks, Impossible! I thought it was only appropriate to break out that ol' chestnut--last time I used it was in response to the BNBB (the what? ) shitting *oops* I mean shutting down. This "new improved" One Night is about the same degree of customer "service," methinks... -

Man, Blue Note just takes the cake. Well, this is what I have to say: -
Ouch! "Battery Service", not a replacement battery (which you apparently can't buy), is $99.95 + shipping!!! Apple's own ipod service page Dirty secret indeed! Of course, have studies been conducted re the longevity/lifetime of the batteries? DATA would be helpful...

Hopefully I'm not catching you too late, gdogus, but did you catch Water Babies from (correct me if I'm wrong) about 66/68, but released later? Beautiful stuff, with the only distractions being some abrupt editing of tracks... But, you're probably immersed in the wonder of Silent Way, and from there, there's no looking back! My props for taking this journey in such a short period of time...I think it will expand your horizons beautifully...

Gdogus, consider easing further in with something from his Gil Evans collab period--if for no other reason than to complete the evolutionary picture. I used to have the same problem getting into later Miles, but I think the later music rewards repeated listens. I'm also fond of On the Corner, as yet another bridge to the later stuff--I think it was unjustly maligned by the critics and other when it came out as "not jazz," a ridiculous sentiment that's been played out here before (see discussion wrt Vince Guaraldi). But I digress! You've inspired me to put on some of those later sides during the remainder of the weekend...I'll check back. Hope you continue to post your impressions!

I'm digesting the second set of the complete James Bond (Christmas present from my wife!) I LOVE James Bond flicks, cheesy though they may be! Set 2 has: Diamonds are forever, From Russia with Love, You Only Live Twice, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only, Living Daylights and The World is Not Enough. Gotta get sets 1 and 3, but set 2 has most of the better films...if it had Dr. No, I wouldn't need any more...

Where would you be without...

You guys all kick ass! I've learned a hell of a lot from everyone and developed some nice friendships in the process. Special thanks to Jim for getting the party started, Dan for a super-generous act, and Tom for hipping me to Henze! Can't wait to meet some of y'all in person! -
Happy New Year, Everyone

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE! Glad to see, after a quick 1/1/04 check of CNN, that the world hasn't blown up. I hope all of my friends on the board have a great 2004...it really feels like it's going to be a great year! And I hope we can make the St. Louis/Lansing/Chicago/Irkutsk gathering work! -
Happy new year indeed! Congrats!

'We're old, we're cranky ruled out as state slogan
Peter Johnson replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Are you fucking kidding me? I grew up in Portland...I'm so ashamed. Remember, this from the same agency that came up with "Nike: I can." ***NON P.C. ALERT*** Both of these sound like slogans for the special olympics!!!??? -

Holiday Destinations

A day of snowboarding in Pennsylvania, then upstate New York to see some relatives, then NYC for a night, and back home. Whirlwind!!! -
Man, you guys make life expensive. I'm listening to the Takács set right now (bought it last night) and it's incredible. I'll try to post some impressions later, but I've never heard the set in its entirety. One thing that does bug me about the Takács, though, is the fact that disc one has quartets 1, 3 & 5, and disc 2 has quartets 2, 4 & 6. I prefer to listen in sequence, but that's just me... Thanks for the recs!

Jim, I'm happy to take a look at this over the weekend. As for now, well, it's 5:30 on Friday and let's just say this week has been

Here's an interesting article from the Philadelphia weekly. She also has a website. I love her singing!

In addition, I'd need to see the contract you guys signed (or was it done electronically) regarding sales @ CDStreet.

Who's planning to see Jackie and Cedar next week?
Peter Johnson replied to Jazz Groove's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Shitty policy. That's why I usually just call the VV to make reservations and pay at the door. -
