  1. Lots of good stuff on this one - V-Disc parties...
  2. Just got it from the courier guy along with other stuff.
  3. I got it from CDConnection or, you could try CDUniverse - not sure what the latter charges for shipping. CDConnection lists the label as Highnote Records btw.
  4. LAL - does the CD contain more material than the LP? (Blues for Lester/Go Red go/Smooth sailin'/Flyin' home #2) MG MG I don't have the disc with me, but from the online store listing, the tracks are: Just a Closer Walk With Thee Blue & Sentimental Go Red Go On the Sunny Side of the Street Blues for Lester September Song Smooth Sailing Flying Home (61+ mins total playing time)

    Red Norvo

Can anyone recommend these later recordings by Red ("Famous Door" series)?
  6. Some OOP discs with Geri Allen in the lineup... Ralph Peterson Jr - Triangular, Volition Lonnie Plaxico - Plaxico Jay Hoggard - Night In Greenwich Village Btw - Has anyone noticed a bunch of OOP Muse CDs are on sale at various online stores at low prices?! Grabbed the following: - Arnett Cobb - Muse All Stars Live At Sandy's - Cecil Brooks III - Smokin Jazz with Antonio Hart - Jimmy Forrest - Heart Of The Forrest - Jimmy Heath - Time And The Place - Jay Hoggard - Little Tiger with Benny Green - Jay Hoggard - Love Is The Answer - Groove Holmes - Hot Tat - Lorez Alexandria - I'll Never Stop Loving You - Mel Lewis - Mellifluous - Mulgrew Miller - Landmarks - Wallace Roney - Munchin - Nat Simpkins - Cookin With Some Barbeque - Jack Walrath - Serious Hang with Don Pullen
  7. Weetbix: one bite + one big sip of full-cream milk...delicious ..but that was years ago. Stay away from almost all grain-based foods now, and am largely cured of my daily sinus/flu. -_-
  8. The Tower Records chain in Malaysia, which is not owned by Tower US but a franchise by a local, is continuing its operations. According to the guy at the jazz/classical section, the main reason they are still in business is because it's basically a front for the other highly lucrative "business" of the franchise-owner, namely pirating of music and movie discs (mostly Asian stuff). Meanwhile, I've been happily picking up some titles at big discounts - these have been sitting on the aisles for at least 8-9 years. Btw - the jazz department is also largely deserted even during peak hours for Tower.
  9. Still don't see any sign of the JSPs at my regular stores... Anyone has this 3-disc set, not the JSP, but apparently a recent RCA release? ~66 tracks in all

    Jazz Oracle

The Eddie South is a 3-disc set! The complete Cheloni broadcasts, recorded by violinist South and his orchestra in Hollywood. This set provides a glimpse of South's broad repertoire, from popular songs of the day to tangos, rumbas and traditional folk songs.
  11. Looks like 2001 has slashed the prices of many Fantasy titles by 1/3 to 1.99 Euros...
  12. Thanks for heads up. Still no sign of Fletcher Henderson 1932 - '34
  13. Not many in the collection: - Mind Your Language (my all time favourite sitcom) - Bewitched First & Second seasons (colour version) - Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (Jeremy Brett) - The Jeffersons First Season These are on the next to get list: - Fantasy Island First Season - The Honeymooners 39 classic episodes - The Jeffersons Second - Fifth Seasons - Benny Hill Also, just got these two discs of 30s animation shorts (Cartoons That Time Forgot Vols.1&2)
  14. I have been thinking about getting this album by the singer Ada Moore, whom I've never heard of: It will probably be on Concord's deletions list one of these days. Has anyone heard the album - love it/hate it?
  15. Thanks for heads up! Picked up: Teo Macero -- Teo Macero With The Prestige Jazz Quartet Billie Poole -- Confessin The Blues CD Prestige Blues Swingers(Art Farmer & Others) -- Outskirts of Town More to come, unless they run out of stock...
  16. Didn't buy anything - did receive this e-mail from Jazzloft.com: (for once, didn't bite any CD-sale bait! )
  17. For something a little different Maxine Sullivan - Close As Pages In A Book Her 'comeback' album after a fairly long layoff from recordings. Her voice had deepened by then and there are occasional cracks but this is IMO one of her best albums of any period. Backed by a quartet of Bob Wilber, Bernie Leighton, George Duvivier and Gus Johnson.

    Ron Levy

Thanks for the information! Short bio on Ron Levy from AMG (with some outdated information):
  19. Anyone heard of this artist? He's got a couple of albums on a label called Bullseye Blues and a few more on other labels. Any of these worth checking out?
  20. Picked up some items that were on sale: Paul Motion - Monk In Motion Greg Osby - St Louis Shoes Kevin Mahogany - Pussy Cat Dues: Music Of Charles Mingus Scott Hamilton - Organic Duke Jack DeJohnette - Special Edition
  21. Been making an order per month since the Fantasy/ZYX titles resurfaced in March/April. So far so good, with the rare wrong disc inserted and several cracked CD cases. I also received a Euro10 coupon recently and decided to pick up some lesser-rated reissues plus those by new artists on Fantasy, and some of those Classical box sets by Brilliant Classics, which are just so enticing at those crazy prices. I'm hoping they can source for more of those Milestone, "Legends Of Acid Jazz" and more recent soul-jazz reissues, which are IMO being sold elsewhere at exorbidant prices.
  22. Jimmy McGriff - Giants of the Organ in Concert Jimmy McGriff - Right Turn on Blues Richard "Groove" Holmes - Comin' on Home
  23. I like, plus cashew and almond butter.
  24. Well, this has received top level coverage in the major Malaysian and Singapore dailies, appearing on the front page yesterday and two full pages inside today! Given his frequent close encounters with dangerous creatures, I'm not surprised at the death - only, I thought he would have been done in by a venomous snake or spider (or are those we see on TV neutralised?). RIP While in Aus, I once came face to face with a hairy spider the size of my face, in a dorm toilet. From that time onward, I never used that toilet again even in an emergency. Spiders as well! http://www.usyd.edu.au/anaes/venom/spiders.html#FUNNELWEB
