  1. Randomly picking from a list (never heard any of the albums): Harold Vick - Steppin' Out Ike Quebec - Congo Lament Sonny Redd - Out Of The Blue Walter Davis Jr - Davis Cup Freddie Redd - Shades of Redd (again?) And yes please to Art Hodes and other early Blue Note albums.
  2. Here's one (American Music AMCD77) I believe he was also in the 20s band Halfway House Orchestra. There's a CD reissued by Jazz Oracle.
  3. I've been looking for that set for ages, and I immediately ordered a copy. Thanks for the tip! Just placed an order - thanks!
  4. From your posts in the "What are you listening to now?" and "What music did you buy?" threads, I´m sure you´re one of the best clients for Mr. GHB Jr. ! (wonderful family of labels, BTW) Undisputedly the best from my neck of the woods!
  5. Since I can't take a trip to the U.S, I'll do my bit by buying some of his records - on Audiophile, Jazzology etc. The one with the Anglo American Alliance "Tuesday Band" on Jazzology is fab (John RT Davies is on alto and other instruments).
  6. Stephan of 2001 says they are continuously looking for more ZYX/Fantasy titles and I quote from a mid-August email "...will surely offer more items in the near future - but probably not in this large amount as right now." So, I'll save my cash for now and wait for the next batch of ZYX goodies.
  7. Slave to Discovery Channel and the like. Completely turned off BBC, CNN etc as all they ever feature in the news are events in the Middle East. The rest of the world does not exist.
  8. I'll have to get this material all over again just for improved sound, if sold at the regular JSP budget price. The Classics series is terribly uneven and difficult to listen to at times.
  9. Yes! I have them in my wish list. Yes, these and 300+ titles.
  10. Didn't buy them, but thought lovers of trad jazz/swing might be interested in these new IAJRC releases:
  11. I have the booklets for 70 sets, does that count?
  12. Shirley Scott's Impulse albums would make a decent Mosaic box. Hardly any of that material has been n CD. MG MG - Several Impulse albums (Roll Em, On A Clear Day, Queen Of The Organ) were reissued on CD - US/Japanese editions, all of which are now OOP. You can probably get used copies from Amazon marketplace, or try downloading from the Verve website.
  13. Shirley Scott - Scottie Plays The Duke (AFAIK only one track from the album has appeared on CD - the comp, "Memorial Album") No chance of a full reissue now I suppose
  14. I ordered the Sarah Vaughan and Prima/Manone sets 1 1/2 weeks ago, which have not shipped, asked for a discount yesterday and got it. -_-
  15. Might be old news, but anyone interested in certain Marvel characters might want to check out a single DVD-ROM box that collects every single issue in that character's main series from the 60s to the more recent ones. Issues are reproduced in full, i.e. the letters to the editor, advertorials etc are all reproduced and packed in Acrobat/pdf format. Anyone who wishes to spend hours and hours glued to the PC reading their old favs should check these out - I probably will.
  16. Got the Living In Sin disc - decent vocals and interpretations but didn't really leave a big impact on me. Should give it another listen.

  18. Vocal fans who want an overview of Ella's Pablo albums (1953 - '83) may be interested in the Concert Years 4CD compilation. Grrr...I'll be making a fourth order from these guys in under 8 weeks.
  19. A co-worker at the office keeps humming these gals' hit. Irritating as it is, the tune is sticking to the brain...
  20. I guess this is the only recording/album available on CD?
  21. Some nice prices on these discs: *Donald Byrd -- At The Half Note Cafe Vols 1 & 2(RVG Remaster Edition) *Shorty Rogers -- Afro Cuban Influence *Trudy Pitts With Pat Martino -- Legends Of Acid Jazz Introducing The Fabulous Trudy Pitts/These Blues Of Mine *Blossom Dearie & Les Blue Stars -- Jazz In Paris Pianist Les Blue Stars
  22. Duke Pearson discs 1 to 3 ~ half of the set has some 'relaxing' music for a lazy Sunday afternoon ~ never liked Flora Plurim's vocals on Chick Corea albums and others, but these are an exception
