Question - Woody Herman Woody's Winner
TedR replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Bill Chase was also in Maynard Ferguson's big band in the late 50's. The Mosaic Roulette Maynard Ferguson has the recordings with Chase in the trumpet section. -
Under the "guilty pleasure" category, watching and enjoying the new season of Dallas......the first five episodes still with Larry Hagman.

Until someone raises a point that just must be argued with. :-)

Watched this show right up until another "follower", training to be a serial killer, killed a bunch of dogs. Turned it off and will never watch again. Disgusting show irresponsibly trying to be shocking. Hope it's off the air soon.

Drummer Carl Allen's Atlantic cd called Testimonial that ends with a beautiful tune, A City Called Heaven, sung by Kevin Mahogany. Lineup of Nicholas Payton, Vincent Herring, Cyrus Chestnut, Christian McBride, etc. All the tunes are very much "of the church".

Are there any box bargains currently available?
TedR replied to GA Russell's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
No. Three separate boxes (Fearless Leader, Interplay and Side Steps) have everything that was in Coltrane's Complete Prestige recordings. Fearless Leader includes the Coltrane led sessions. The other two are all the Prestige sessions with Coltrane as sideman. -
Yeah........Mike Brown thanked LeBron for allowing him to be his coach.

Johnny Griffin's House For Sale

I'd like to see pictures of his music room. -
My wife and I live in a western suburb of Cleveland. My mother lives in a neighboring suburb where the half the houses, including hers, are without power. Mom is staying with us since the power is estimated to be off anywhere from one to seven days. Fallen trees blocked some roads, one of which fell on and destroyed mom's neighbors garage. This storm covered a huge area.

It might be akin to watching the planets revolve around the sun from the sun's POV instead of the planets'...maybe? Maybe not? Point being simply that every music has an axis around which all moving parts revolve, and in a lot of jazz (or just a lot of music, period), that axis is the bass. Not just the harmonic axis either, but the rhythmic one as well. Especially the rhythmic one. Bass is the place! Absolutely! I always listen to recordings from a fresh perspective after hearing music live. In jazz the bass always has more presence in person. That is either the fault of under recording the instrument , my lazy listening or both. Regardless this thread will change my perspective, especially regarding hearing Jimmy Garrison.

I'm glad the editor took the opportunity to refute his comment. Another ear opening thread. I'm still trying to absorb the interaction of Trane, Tyner and Jones. Now I'm looking forward to hearing this group from the bottom up.

In many (maybe most) states if the key is in the ignition (whether the engine is running) they'll get you for it. Once in a great while someone drunk gets into a car, puts the keys in the ignition but thinks the better of it and sleeps it off in the car. Because the keys are in the ignition and not in the pocket it can mean a headache if an officer finds the person this way. I don't know the details but I imagine the investigation was led by what condition he was in when he drove to the cornfield. Assuming that he did drive himself there, yes. There is no proof to that effect. He was asleep and stopped....and in a cornfield. Not many cars in a cornfield. DUI is a driving violation. Corn is an agricultural product. I'm not seeing a connection. Thank God in my state, you actually have to be driving to get arrested for Driving Under the Influence. Hence, the term. I think at most he should have been arrested for public intoxication, but there again, that is assuming corn can be considered "public". Was it his own cornfield? Might have made a difference. Good point. Otherwise, assuming he didn't drive himself there, Mr. Fisk sure would have a bone to pick with whoever drove him into a field, pushed him into the drivers seat and left him there to sleep it off while said driver had a nice walk through the corn back home. Maybe Mr. FIsk and his friends enjoy pulling pranks on each other. Though of course there's no proof of that. There is no proof of driving. That is the key point. The rest is pure conjecture. If we are OK with popping people based on assumption, then what's next? Put a guy in jail because he lives on the same street the criminal does and simply upon the basis we can assume he had something to do with his criminal behavior because he knew the guy? C'mon. I was agreeing with you ("Good point") though my choice of icon was not the best. There can be both conjecture that he did drive his own truck and an assumption that he didn't because there were no witnesses, hence no proof. I was making a speculation that if someone drove him there Fisk would have reason to be pissed at them since he was arrested as a result. Just commenting on one possible circumstance. Not everything's a challenge to your opinions. C'mon.

I think Chuck should apologize for his post.

This collapse after a comeback win against Detroit and one of the best pitchers in baseball is,,,,,well, is it unprecedented? Even for the Tribe, who always seem to struggle after all star break, this is pathetic. I'm still a fan though, but damn!

I couldn't tell how old this player is but he sounds like any number of young students just learning to play. In any case, my dogs get relaxed and nap when music is on. When they heard this, they became very agitated.

Because of a number of posts about Philip K. Dick, I picked up In Milton Lumky Territory at our local library book sale.
