I was warned by several people that 1) The Mona Lisa was tiny, unimpressive and not worth the wait and 2) It takes hours to get in to see it. Both times I went to the Louvre, I was able to walk right up to it. No line like I was warned. A crowd, for sure, but not too big. And yes, it is almost tiny, especially since they put it in that little room about 10 feet away from the viewing window. To be honest, I really wasn't that impressed. In fact, one of the times I was in that room, there was an incredible painting on the adjacent wall that kept my attention for a solid 10 minutes. The Mona Lisa was a glance by comparison.

WTB - Bob Belden Princejazz
Kevin Bresnahan replied to Kevin Bresnahan's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Lon is right - they are quite different. For instance, there are no vocals on "Princejazz". I've actually heard all of the music. Many years ago, Bob sent me a link to a shared hard drive so I could hear it. I just want to get a hard copy. -
For several years, I've randomly searched for a reasonably-priced copy of Bob Belden's "Princejazz", which was only released in Japan back in 1994. I've never thought to ask here, so here I go... Does anyone have a copy they'd be willing to sell for $20?

I was looking for Belden's "Princejazz" on ebay when up pops someone selling his obituary cut out of the La Times for $9.99. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1956-2015-BOB-BELDEN-OBITUARY-SAXOPHONIST-RETOOLED-THE-MUSIC-OF-OTHERS/143183739907?hash=item21566a7c03:g:J5UAAOSwpdpVdJtm I've heard of people collecting some rather bizarre things but obit snippings?? I just don't get this one.

I have this. I bought it from Cicci himself during one of his annual visits to Jocko's Jazz club in Methuen, MA. I can't find any contact info for him on line. He is still playing around MA. If he comes back to Jocko's, I could probably get another copy.

“Comfortably Numb” while getting numb at the dentist office
Kevin Bresnahan replied to gvopedz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
When I got an MRI, they allowed me to bring my own CDs. I brought Mobley's "Soul Station" and I couldn't hear a lick of it over the "NYAHNN, NYAHNNN, NYAHNNN, NYAHNNN... KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK... NYAHNNN, NYHANN, NYAHNNN. -
Make sure you have it backed up to your hard drive. The fan club CD-R is shit. Mine failed many years ago and I had to threw it out.

NYC’s Cafe Bohemia re-opens?!

I don't see if this version is anywhere near where it used to be. Did I miss that? -
"crowd sourced journalism" in sports is also fraught with mis-information. I can't tell you how many times that there's been some sort of story leaked out via some fan site that turned out to be completely bunk. Over & over again. Real journalists have to do real work to get their information. They establish relationships with the players, owners & pretty much anyone involved on the day to day operations to source crucial information for their stories. Crowd sourced journalists use Google, Facebook, Instagram & Twitter. It's how a lot of BS rumors somehow stay alive on the web for as long as they do. It's like a giant "Whisper Game". It morphs from site to site with added layers of BS ad infinitum. It's scary how lives & careers get mauled or destroyed by this rumor machine.

I don't find the bari tedious at all. I do love Nick Brignola's "all bari" CDs, "Flight of the Eagle" and my favorite "On A Different Level". Serge Chaloff's "Blue Serge" is played quite often. The aforementioned Leo Parker's Blue Note dates are great. Gary Smulyan has made some beautiful dates. Pepper Adams' "The Master" is aptly named. I love bari sax dates. To each his own...

I have really appreciated what he did with the Criss Cross label. Thank you Mr. Teekens. Was he still in charge there? I hope the label continues on.

They've confirmed that her two children died as well: https://www.noozhawk.com/article/coroner_confirms_identities_of_children_died_highway_154_crash_20191101 So tragic. I can't even imagine what her husband is going through.

John Patton - Eagle Eye Blues

The label (Excellence Records) lists it for sale on their website: http://www.excellencerecords.com/custom_5.html -
He used to tour regularly, often with the Heath Brothers. I haven't seen him in years though but to be expected when he's 93.

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/07/16/ec_copyright_term_extension/ As far as I can tell, Sony is issuing these Bob Dylan & Miles Davis recordings so that *they* retain the protections and to prevent Dylan & Davis' estate from profiting off of these works.
-
Wasn't this whole bootleg series just a way to keep this stuff out of the public domain. Was it the EU that put in a "use it or lose it" clause? Whatever - I was under the impression that the Bob Dylan & Miles bootleg series were created to "use it" so that these recordings are now protected.

Computer Gurus: Computer Basics
Kevin Bresnahan replied to GA Russell's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Are you asking about using a computer or the stuff inside the computer. You mentioned Windows 10 above, which is why I recommended what I did. It's how I learned my way around a computer. The best thing clicking around the menus is that there are almost always pop up info boxes when you hover over any button and there is almost always a cancel button, so you don't have to worry about doing anything bad. -
what are you drinking right now?
Kevin Bresnahan replied to alocispepraluger102's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I bet that was a good one! Their prices have spiked dramatically these past few years so I haven't bought one in a while. I have been drinking their second label Cab lately, Bella Union, and I think it's just about as good. -

I have found that with computers, it's fairly easy to learn by simply clicking around everywhere. If you have Windows 10, click the start menu and run every single entry listed there. Just see what everything does. After you do this, go back to things that sounded interesting and click around in them. For Windows settings areas, like wireless settings and things like that, there are layers and layers of settings so go as deep as you can. When you get to applications like Word, Excel & Powerpoint, there are libraries of books on how to use these apps' tools. You may never learn all their tricks, but you should click around in there enough to do what yo have to do. Excel is a very powerful data handler app. You can pretty much look at numbers up, down & sideways and display it anyway you want. People make long careers being proficient in Excel, so don't be worried if you're not an expert there. -
I always wear a watch. I keep looking for the time at my naked wrist on the occasions when I forget. Recently, I restored my Dad's Rolex and I've been wearing it for the past 6 months. I've always wanted one. My mom was clearing out her stuff in preparation for the move into a retirement facility and she found it gave it to me because she knew I always liked it. It never ran right the whole time my dad owned it so I brought it to a Rolex dealer and they quoted me an outrageous repair cost. It turns out that when my mother brought it to a local jeweler several years ago to try and get it working, the sleazy jeweler (now out of business) swapped out the face & wristband. The reason it never worked right was because somehow, the case managed to get dented so it was no longer waterproof. It was my dad's watch so I paid the crazy money to get it going again. It's beautiful and I'm glad I did it. I miss that old guy. BTW - Rolex tells me that it was a good thing I brought it in when I did (Feb of this year) because starting in June of this year, they no longer repair any watch that's returned with counterfeit parts on it. They send it back as non-repairable. So if you have an old Rolex that's had any parts swapped out and they're not genuine Rolex parts, you're going to have to get it repaired by a local repair shop using more counterfeit parts as Rolex has also stopped selling OEM parts to non-Rolex repair shops. It looks like this:
