  1. Rick Margitza can PLAY. He's got it. I haven't heard these Douglas's but I've heard him elesewhere and he's not likely to disappoint.
  2. Cool photos! Makes me want to sing out "Oh Donna!"
  3. Katzman CAN play indeed. He was born in Chicago. Seems to me most of his work has been done with West Coast cats, probably from his Kenton affiliation.

Worlds Records is a wonderful company I feel. Yes you pay full pop most of the time. BUT they carry these speciality labels and usually have all the material in stock. And they can get items from Storyville and other labels about the same time as the original release and generally months before they are available from other US stores. On top of that, Ren Brown is a great person to do business with in all ways. They package wonderfully as well, and their shipping rates are good. That "Gift from the President" is a wonderful disc!
  5. Also I've begun listening to the Peter Green material in the Fleetwood Mac catalog again. . . forgot how he captured the B. B. thing so positiveiy when he wanted to. . . .
  6. I remember having those lps years ago and I don't have them any more. . . they're really fine. I have been listening to the Crown cd reissues on Ace and just have gotten "stuck" in that period of B. B. . . . I just love this stuff, and they're fine reissues in every way.
  7. Man, the sound is great on this one!
  8. I actually like the Copenhagen material, especially that released "at the time." I agree that a two cd set from Verve would have been great. . . especially as the LPR single disc reissue of the original lp material SOUNDS SO DAMNED GOOD!
  9. I'll just leave it as it is. I'll explain it to anyone who doesn't understand!
  10. That is a good site. . . I've browsed there and wished I had some of those bootlegs. I just think it's so odd that we now have THREE official box sets that basically have lots of the released stuff mixed with a little of the unreleased stuff.
  11. OH ME OF LITTLE FAITH! UPS pulled up ten minutes ago and I have it. Looks like a really cool set. No frills, you don't pay a lot, and you're not paying a lot for fancy packaging. Going to be a great weekend for listening!
  12. Well I raced home. . . and no set! It's past the time that UPS usually delivers here. . .but then I don't usually get express stuff from UPS. I'm hoping it's not lost or stolen!
  13. And here's Ray Nance doing a Red Foxx move. . . .hmmmm. . . . .
  14. I don't dig that one at all. . . . started me on a "Nelson bugs me" spiral!
  15. I think that's a great cd. . . though i wish there were more depth to the recording itself.
  16. That's a killer Ray Nance lp. . . . I bet the cd sounds even better than the lp (I hope so as the lp is not a sonic wonder!) I wish they had combined "A Flower is a Lovesome Thing" with this one though. . . I think they would both comfortably fit on one cd.
  17. My set is due today too. . . . If only I could stay home! But alas it's not to be.

    I don't recommend using steel needles. . . .
  19. Beer kept Egyptian and Mesopotamian civilizations rolling along as well. . . was a large part of the food source.
  20. All those recent backordered RVGs shipped today. . . except for the McCoy Tyner. Whoo boy!
  21. Well, I personally don't find Krupa to be "amateurish"--he's playing to the crowd's love of flash, and he's generating a lot of excitement. I like Krupa, I like Webb, they're different players with different approaches and styles. The passage where it's mainly Goodman and Krupa playing. . . was that a first in a swing jazz performance? Sure it's not Trane and Elvin but it's different for the time.
  22. No doubt. Especially the MPSs. ← Actually, I'd love to see them gather up the radio broadcast material I keep reading about but not hearing!

I've gotten most of mine from Worlds. . . cduniverse as well, though they don't offer all of them for some reason.
  24. Here's hoping.
  25. All right Q! I really enjoy this box and you've described the variety and the highlights well! I think you would enjoy the Capitol box. . . there IS an affinity between these two. Both are great boons to jazz collecting from Mosaic. . . all that stuff in such great sound and in one place with killer annotation.
