  1. You're welcome. I was surprised to see this available as well. . . was looking at the Steve Hoffman forum that gets talked up here and saw this link in a thread. Too bad they didn't play "Me and My Uncle."
  2. I wouldn't have been happy to hear that. . . but that's me. hey, check out this Playboy After Dark video! http://www.youtube.com/watch_fullscreen?vi...l%20Dead%20live
  3. Now reading the A. J. Albany memoir "Low Down." Scary. Dark. Excelent writing as others have pointed out.
  4. I've dropped dimes on a number of the Verve Vault reissues. For one thing those that I've bought just don't show up in the used bins. . . . For another, most have been digital copies of Japanese cds that cost twice as much when I can find them. . . WHEN I can find them. The downloads sound very good to me on my system. I can usually get all the information that I need and a cover image from the site and other sites and don't feel I'm missing much. (I hardly ever read liner notes any longer, which is funny when I consider how I used to pore over them!)
  5. Happy happy happy! More more more!
  6. Still haven't gotten my copy of the Fehrman!
  7. Those are among my favorite Bird live items!
  8. Good to hear from you pal!
  9. One tune of the three is presented in its entirety as an extra feature in the Ken Burns Jazz dvd set, disc two. Another is available on the dvd within the Hip-O Billie Holiday set.
  10. Actually, I think that band does a great job behind him. He's simply fascinating to watch!
  11. No kidding! Joe knows Jack so well. . . has such a resource of Teagarden material. . . the film documentary he produced is DA SHIT. . . . I'll be all over this book.
  12. They are reproduced on cd in their entirety on "Louis Armstrong in Scandinavia Volume One" on Storyille. The three volumes in this series so far are awesome! I know of only one full video appearance of these: Yazoo's "At the Jazz Band Ball" which is a great hour of early jazz film.
  13. Many more happy ones! That includes posts and birthdays!
  14. When I compared the TOCJs and the RVGs on a scope they didn't look that different! Anyway, the new ones sound a lot different than the first year's did. I enjoy them. TOCJs DO sound sort of dull and flat to me nowadays. I guess it's different strokes, and systems, for different folks. I'm glad the series has kept going and am curious to hear the Prestige versions.
  15. Yes, when it came out. Pretty cool.
  16. Reviewers like to get Mosaic sets for free?
  17. Yes I stood in line to mail some packages this morning . . .about twenty minutes. I didn't need 2 cent stamps, but most everyone ahead of me did. I knew weeks ahead of time that the rate was going up. . . ! I guess I was alone!
  18. RVGs seem to be selling better, compression and all... Interestingly enough, a digital engineer I know said there was SERIOUS compression going on on the TOCJ series of discs, 16 and 20 bit. Anyway, RVGs don't sound the way they used to. I think they sound great for the most part. I'll probably get "Gettin' Around" first from this batch. All the Dexter talk lately!
  19. If you mean what would've happened had he stayed in the states in the 60s & early 70s, my hunch is that he'd have died much sooner than he did. I'm afraid you might be right.
  20. I think it was a joke. . .playing on the purity of the powder. But. . . what do I know about that stuff. Hey anyone want to speculate on how Dexter's final decade or decade and a half would have been if he hadn't been an expatriot those years? Do you think he would have had to sharpen and tighten to keep eveb with or ahead of the pack with the diminishing market?
  21. Man, oh man. . . I've tried to like this music ever since the lps came out. . . . I just don't and it's not the sound that keeps me from doing so! I used to feel that I SHOULD. But. . . what the heck, I yam what I yam.
  22. Many more happy ones. Party on Garth!
