  1. L, thanks for the description. I love those guys. Thank goodness RW is still with us giving his all!
  2. Cool Matthew. . . .Though I had the opposite reaction. . . the ten cd set has made me warm even more to Pigpen!
  3. I noticed that Dusty Groove got it in. .. (I didn't order it, I'm broke!) and they also had all four boxes of Jazz in Paris this weekend at 19.99!
  4. Man, I've never seen that four cd set, I tried to find it for a long time, but it came out when the Davis estate was really clamping down on imports of Davis concerts. I did get all four discs separately in the excellent Sony/Trema digipak series of these concerts. Sounded better than other Europe 1 cds I had too. If you can find those they're very nice (even though their cover photos are a bit whack on a few).
  5. I don't WANT to see Munich. I do want to see Kong. .. . I am convinced that Jackson's version will be eway better than the second one and in the spirit of the first. . . .
  6. The only one I don't have of those is the Rockin' the Rhein. . . . DPs 19 and 20 would be good picks indeed!
  7. I have the Condon. I"ve lived with the original lp for years. I love the session. The sound on the cd is more "ambient" ---more room sound, a more recessed presentation. I like that though after years of the original presentation it's a little unsettling. But if you weren't familiar with the lp it would be a great remastering and sound and it's a very cool performance. Extra material as well, a good slab of it. The songs are from the repretoire of the OJDB mostly, but not done in OJDB style. Chicago style all the way!
  8. I really like the Oslo performance. And the Holland. And. . . . Hmmmm. . . . I like them all!
  9. Definitely will be seeing it within the next few weekends. Been looking forward to it since seeing the first trailers months ago. Clooney is one of those few actors (Pitt is another) who I really don't want to like so much but have to admit can really act if challenged to!
  10. When I was a kid I was SURE I'd be flying one of these!
  11. Agreed. But man oh man I know so many who see this as a Time magazine from the week of Armeggedon.
  12. Been doing research and am reading an interesting book about The Revelation of Saint John (Revelation: Down to Earth, by Edwin Walhout), a pastoral interpretation that is so different from the "Revelations as triumpant future history" that is usually bandied about. Also purchased and will work my way through this coming year (if you have seen this you would know this is a realistic target period of time!) The Oxford History of Christian Worship. Quite a phenomenal work.
  13. Many more happy ones ex-neighbor!
  14. Sad news. Best wishes.
  15. Yes, that is a nice band and a great little show. . . . That chart is very nice indeed played by these guys.
  16. Watching some pretty hip swinging Wurlitzer on a Harry James tv dance show from 1964 or 1965 . . . some very cool Red Kelly and Buddy Rich too.
  17. This smacks of "Ground Hog's Day"!
  18. Boy howdy that's great. Thanks Hans.
  19. Happy birthday, and post every once in a while, okay?
  20. Okay. I've never seen Jerry say that, doesn't mean he didn't, also doesn't mean that every time he was playing rhythmn that was the case.. . . But I'll not argue it further. I'm finding myself a lot more interested in 1965 to 1968 than I ever was before. Jerry was really in a particular "zone" during that time and it's a "zone" I really dig. Also liked the sound of the Guild and the other guitars he was using. And Pig and Billy and Phil and Bob. ..all sort of learning to run with the group feeling. . . .Neat stuff! Glad I downloaded me some whilest I could!
  21. Well . . . I'm not sure I agree about the r-guitar thing. Two guitars chording forcefully have of course more weight than one, and that may have been exactly what Jerry "felt" was needed. . . . Didn't have to mean that Weir was deficient in any way at that point of the jam, just that Jerry might have wanted more chording weight by doubling the chords. Weir is a "weird" guitarist. . . he's unconventional. . . but he plays damned fine guitar if you ask me. I love his lines and chords. I love Jerry's too. My one complaint about Weir is I think that Ibanez he played for years and years was not the best sounding guitar for the band. . . . But that's just my personal opinon more than anything. I don't feel its tone and texture blended as well as another might. Anyway, it doesn't matter as far as I'm concerned. The band evolved and in MY opinion almost every member made great and important contributions through the first five to ten years. (I really don't like Hart's coming back to the band. . . I like him before he left, but rarely feel I want him there after he returned. That's just me and my love of Billy's drummin'!)
  22. SG. Cherry finish. Used to have one almost like that. (Different hardware). Great blues guitars!
  23. No arguments from me! I don't think I quite agree about the statement above about Weir pre 1972. . . . I have lots of stuff I listen to pre 1972 where Weir is quite audible and quite important. Anyway, not meaning to diminish the importance of Phil in the band pre 1972 or post!
  24. You'll be a happy camper. . . .
