  1. R, nice little review!
  2. There were some intereseting cassettes and cdrs that were put out through her ashram of chanting and synthesizer. . . not essential, but nice if her spiritual efforts don't perplex or annoy you (as I know they do some). I like this one a lot. I also am a big fan of her string arrangements! I visited her release with Carlos Santana from the mid-seventies again recently. . . beautiful stuff.
  3. I like the RVG. . . it sounds really nice to me.
  4. Word from an AAJ reviewer is no, this is not copy-protected.
  5. I've loved Oblique from the first spin. . . . And it's Stinson that makes this recording special for me. What a player! What a shame to lose him so young!
  6. Here's one: http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=18394
  7. I listened to this a half a dozen times when it first came out, and feel that the sound is excellent; sounds a lot like the lp I have of this (without all the groove wear!). So . . . no. . . I don't remember it sounding the way you seem to, and I don't remember the bass notes. Flurin also said this sounded bad in the store when it came out. . . . I'm wondering if this European version is the same transfer I have here in the US or if there is a pressing problem, etc.
  8. Mine is scheduled to arrive Friday! Here's hoping! So glad to get it at this price!
  9. That was my experience meeting him too: very warm and friendly man who doesn't mind talking to the peeps!
  10. Dang, going to have to get me the last few Dick's Picks early next year. Yes, Doc Orc: thanks for the pointer to the Prankster/Acid Test material (and a big thanks to The Mule for burnin' 'em for me). I'm really glad to have those four discs!
  11. Closest thing I came to was giving my exboss a cd (Andrew Hill, Judgment RVG) for Xmas to celebrate the fact that he is my EXBOSS. I have been able to be social with him since I was able to go to work for another manager, and I've enjoyed talking audio with him and getting him interested in jazz (Barney Wilen was in fact the entry point for him!) but. . . boy am I glad I don't have to work for him!
  12. Any "new" Mary Lou would be a joy!
  13. Elvin Jones discs one and two
  14. Nice find Tali! I like this collage a lot: http://publicity.rounder.com/images/morton...th_Vignette.jpg Man, I still cringe listening to Jelly on these discs. . . not sound I can ease in to, too scrubbed, but boy is it great to experience as far as education and entertainment!
  15. The latest "Jazzbeat" from George H. Buck. .. with Butterbeans and Susie on the cover.
  16. But. . . it wasn't Fathead's date. .. seems natural to me. Been listening to a lot of Ray Charles lately. . . Fathead and Hank and Marcus et al just playing their asses off!
  17. No, because my wife is not likely to be feeling too well at Xmas, we had ours already. I got a dvd recorder. . . I'm making a burn of a Miles appearance on vhs right now! I like that Steppin' Out thread. . . mine is the earlier version. . . going to have pull that out and listen soon.
  18. She plays beautiful piano too.
  19. Marian is such a wonderful host and her show yields many great musical moments and bits of knowledge that are wonderful to hear. Long may she continue!
  20. There were at least four. . . that may have been all there were. . . I can't seem to get the exact number from my memory. There were some volumes with six or more discs within. . . lot of music!
  21. I like the Gordon Parks collaboration a bit more than the live at the Blue Note.
  22. Yes, I found out this had come out. I'll pick it up after the holidays I think.
  23. I heard there's a hidden track where Chuck Berry plays tenor.
  24. I have the Mayfield Sextet. Sound is excellent. Performance is. . . okay to good.
  25. Wow! This thing might actually ship this weekend or next week!
