  1. Listenin' to the "Tex Book Tenor" release right now. Been so long since I heard that half of the double lp "Back from the Gig." This is a really good date in my opinion, one of my favorite Bookers with excellent Woody and Kenny Barron. If I toe out my speakers enough the McMaster sound doesn't overwhelm me! Still don't like the title though. Sheesh.
  2. I have heard the sermon and it resonates within. Up with people! I love Cannon.
  3. Yeah, I think Duke did great things in this band. Shoot, I even remember some of the "Dukey-Stick" stuff fondly!
  4. That easy to find old stuff? Try "MOTOWN"
  5. How about Nat Cole backed by the Oscar Peterson Trio and Coleman Hawkins!
  6. I really love the Capitol stuff from the last three years or so especially. As Jim says, "total presentation," there's a bit of it all in these stews. . . . But man, Cannon plays some shit that just floors me: ideas, swing, groove, penetration of the psyche. . . it's all there. There are moments on them that are hardly surpassed by any other sax player (just for me, my tastes and bent).
  7. There is a very nice (if badly synched) Elis Regina vidoe of "Aquas de Mars" (mistitled I think). Hottie Airlines is fun.
  8. You might want to contact Audio Advisor about that player as I believe they feature the Cambridge Audio line. . . . www.audioadvisor.com
  9. A few nice Grateful Dead videos. . . including the Playboy after Dark. There are some other Playboy after Dark videos on there too that I haven't checked out yet.
  10. Yeah. . .it's the same stuff. I want to compare the sound and the notes. For 12 dollars from yourmusic.com I decided to do that. Who knows. . .might even sell my Mosaic one day soon.
  11. Yes. . . I do.
  12. I think you're right that Cannon was influenced by Trane during his tenure in the band. . .. I don't agree that this is the most exciting playing from him EVER. I've been equally excited by his playing before and after Miles. . . . But yeah, this was a band (or two or three, there were some different players in there during its run) for the AGES.
  13. I got my notice that the Quebec shipped yesterday!
  14. Yeah. . .apples and oranges. Though I prefer to bite into the Live/Evil apple a bit more than I do segments of the Jack Johnson orange myself. Gary Bartz. .. well this is my favorite Bartz stuff, and I really do like him as a player.
  15. Mine has the sticker as well. . . . I think they "all" do.
  16. I acctually think Joyride is a great date, and am glad to see it getting "the treatment." My RVG wish list would include the Art Hodes material. This is great stuff that I would love to hear in RVG remastering. Likewise I would like to see the Urbie Green and the Lou Mecca be RVG'd.
  17. It was a NYC club. Yes, I consider the sound quality quite good.
  18. "Speaking in Tongues" is the one I gravitate towards most. Just "chock full"!
  19. Agreed. I think this release will be the same mastering, on two cds.
  20. More videos, same site: http://www.youtube.com/results.php?search=...l%20Dead&page=1
  21. I was delighted to see that little Martin guitar. You most often see and hear the dreadnaughts. I had one of those. . .great guitar. . . but those smaller Martins just have such a mellow warm sound.
  22. I agree, Friday seems to have it all. John does shake it up some on Saturday and there are some nice explorations and incredible moments! If he'd been there all week. . .w o w. . . .
  23. Who does? I have a defective disc on this set. . . disc two. . . has that noisey mist of digital distortion on the third third of the disc.
  24. It was the ABC obit so who knows? In either case he was not 21.
