  1. Yeah, I have some black and white footage of Una too. And that Lena sudsing. . . Oh sweet Georgia Brown! Is it five o' clock yet?

Mike, cool, good deal at Waterloo. I don't often get over to Waterloo. . . and things aren't usually that cheap. (I hate the way they have that store set up too). I would have saved about a dollar twenty in comparison to the cduniverse order. I can live with that! That Hawkins is such a great session! I have it but want the RVG sound on that and the Dorham.

  4. I dig the one with Jimmy best.

    Prestige RVGs

I just ordered the Hawkins and the Dorham. I'm intrigued to hear them. . . will probably be a week to ten days though.
  6. I noticed there 100 tracks spread over 6 discs. (they probably could have put this set on 5 discs) Those timings are pretty long on many of the numbers; not sure this would fit on five discs. I have received this from yourmusic and the sound is EXCELLENT. An especially good deal from yourmusic.com if you don't have the complete box set and don't need the alternates (and the rehearsal session). . . . The live concert on the complete box set is worth having though! (But is not unique to the box).
  7. I ordered the Ellington. Pricey, but I've been wanting this on cd, now I'll have it.
  8. Also of interest to someone not interested in this large set are the two cds that are available on "The Old Masters". . . . A lot of the music (not all) is in the Mosaic, the sound is really good on the cds, almost as good as the Mosaic. A great label, TOM. . . .
  9. I've bought them all. It is too long to wait, but I have lots of bootlegs to listen to in between! I'll never say I have enough Miles, again. I might have said that about five years and a hundred discs or so ago!
  10. Yes, and some great music as well as great singing on this set as well. Of course, the Andorran Rip Off Versions will probably be available in perpetuity. . . . DAMNIT.
  11. The Bailey is a really really nice set. So glad I bought it years ago. It was available a long time. Time for some more twenties and thirties material sets!
  12. I would buy this when and if my financial situation improves. This and the Mosaic box are two very different animals I think. I have a portion of this on other Capitol releases. .. .I like Nat enough to be a bit fanatical and I like Bear Family material. It will be some time before I'm buying a set though (necessity not desire is the factor).
  13. It was cool to see, and yeah, that album is great. Funnily I had just finished listening to "Shootout at the Fantasy Factory" before the "Sunday" show came on.
  14. I like the SACDs from OJC that I've heard, but I haven't heard the Kelly. The Monk and the Massey Hall I really think are improvements over even the K2. But so much of this sort of thing is system dependent. (In my opinion).
  15. I hope that is a lot better than the movie. . . which in my opinion bit big!

    Free America

The Shepp, the Wright, and the Emergency are my favorites.
  17. After finishing rereading "The Judgment of Eve" by Edgar Pangborn, I'm reading "The Spartans" by Paul Cartledge.
  18. It's funny, my modified Sony SACD changer (tube output coming straight off the DAC modded by Steve Deckert of DECWARE) makes cds sound so good that SACDs sound hardly much better at all. The difference between cds and SACDs is more pronounced on a friend's Sony player and system. My favortie SACD of all is "Plays W. C. Handy" by Louis Armstrong. This sounds awesome in SACD, better than the cd which sounds just a bit edgier to me. Man. . . it's such great music as well.
  19. I ordered as well. 1973. . . .I'm broke and shouldn't have done this but I can't help myself.
  20. Jim, I really don't think so. LaWanda would have been in her forties when that picture was taken. That model looks a mite younger than that. . . to me at least.
  21. Jim, do you mean "The Bronze Goddess of Fire"? http://www.lamebasement.com/shelter/images/lawanda.jpg
  22. I hear you Mike, Shawn, Jon. . . . I smoked a third of my life, the middle third, and have been nicotine free for sixteen and a half years. Quitting was the hardest thing I ever did, and I think I only accomplished it because I was in one of the happiest periods of my life, paired up with my soulmate in the first blush of solid romance, happy in my work. If smoking is on the decline, that's oh so good.
  23. Yes, that would be nice. . . .
