Has the bottom fallen out of the Mosaic market?
jazzbo replied to Dmitry's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Honest to gosh I avoid blows to the head and brain cell destroying things and I have a pretty darned good memory, not "photographic," but pretty darned good. I read those booklets a few times before storing them, and I remember what I need to from them. I do on occasion pluck a few out to peruse while going through the sets, they are in climate controlled storage and in a cabinet I can access easily. -
Has the bottom fallen out of the Mosaic market?
jazzbo replied to Dmitry's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I can see this happening. If I were to pass this week and my wife were to have to deal with my collection she'd see the discs first and sell those and then later find all the boxes and booklets in storage. . . . -
So nice to have the stereo warmed up again! Listened to Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" from the Columbia Mono Albums box set Miles Davis "Miles Ahead" from the Columbia Mono Albums box set Art Pepper "At the Village Vanguard" disc 3 from the Complete Village Vanguard Recordings box set

"Domination" fell in the domain of another record conglomeration at the time. I really find myself less and less interested in Nelson arranging as time goes by. His playing though is something to marvel at. -

Yes, that's the one I was thinking of, it's out on cd from Europe, I have the LP as well. I was confusing the title with this one I have and love on Bell Records from '61

I adore the Pee Wee Russell on Dot Records "Pee Wee Russell Plays (Pee Wee Russell)" . . .It has been out on a European cd coupled with another Russell LP. Sound is pretty darned decent.

I understand that. I don't have the space either. I'm downsizing slowly, and in the case of these discs it's a program of attrition, I sell another version I have of these when I get the new version. Sigh. It's not easy, it is getting easier.

It's different sounding. I like the sound on both. I love the packaging of these mini-LPs and have begun collecting those I didn't have when I see them priced well, especially the "Japanese RVGs."

This morning I listened to a disc that arrived in the mail yesterday. It's a Japanese LP facsimile cd in the TOCJ 'Super Bit Jazz Classics" series from years back. I had wanted to buy it then but hesitated at the high prices I saw, even though I have the material on LP and in a Mosaic set. Finally saw a reasonably priced copy, and it was sealed. I love this material--good old good 'uns as Pops would say, and Tea is in fine form and well-presented in excellent Capitol recordings: Jack Teagarden "This is Teagarden" After that I wanted to hear another horn player with as lyrical a sound: Gary Bartz, "Reflections of Monk--The Final Frontier" Steeplechase cd Followed by: Gary Bartz "Episode One--Children of Harlem" Challenge cd

Watched a mixed bag of Representatives and four professors today and didn't get much listening to music in. Did listen to: Jackie McLean "One Step Beyond" Blue Note Japan 24 bit by RVG cd. Man this sounds fantastic on the system as it is today. Thelonious Monk "Genius of Modern Music" Blue Note Japan 24 bit by RVG cd. Also sounds fantastic on the system as it is today. Stan Getz "A Go Go" Verve Originals Edition cd. Wanted to listen to vibes again, this time Gary Burton. Sounded really good.

I hadn't noticed the Lester poster, will look for it when I rewatch that episode!

I've a cold that is taking its time getting better and yet luckily hasn't reached my ears. I'm chilling with the third disc of the "Complete Bill Evans on Verve," trio recordings and then a few with Stan Getz. The system sounds fabulous of late. I never heard these Verve discs sound this good before. Wow. Bill was such a talent. He left behind a huge inventory of recordings. . . but I still think he was taken from us far too soon and we should have had more.

Gil Melle "Quadrama" Prestige OJC cd Great work from Joe Cinderella here. (And Gil Melle.)

Seem to have picked up my first bad cold of the year and so I've been banned to the upstairs and get to listen to some music. I have the seventeenth disc of the "Complete Bill Evans on Verve" going ("From Left to Right" and extra material), which is "easy listening" in so many ways, which is nice for me right now as I need to take it easy. . . .

Lee Morgan 60s Mosaic set
jazzbo replied to greggery peccary's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Right, it's a boon to the new collectors. The way that EMI and then Universal has been about keeping things in print there are "good times" to be a new jazz collector. . .and bad times. . . you know I've had my share. -
amazon.com has it but it shows 'unavialable' right now--you can sign up to be notified when it is available to order.

Been doing a lot of "comparative" listening this week, listening to different editions of the same title to decide which to keep and which to cull from the collection. Some fun, some tedium. Today I didn't get to do any listening and then all of a sudden my wife said "I want to hear some Nat King Cole." Well my favorite Cole is the trio stuff but I know she doesn't like that, so I put on this "Pure Audio" Blu-ray Audio and she's digging it--big band stuff with that big baritone voice. . . . Realy nice 24/192 sound as well. Nat King Cole, Universal "Pure Audio" Blu-ray Audio disc, "The Extraordinary" Nat King Cole.

That's a lot of albums! Maybe 9 cds or more in a box set? -

It took a while, but finally my prepaid preorder was found and my copy will be shipping soon. Looking forward to it! But I have plenty to listen to til it arrives! My Dad's Xmas copy of the Savory set arrived last week. He's going to have fun with it, his first Mosaic.

Finally got a response after reaching out to Scott via Facebook; He looked into it and sent me this reply: We’re experiencing troubles with our ordering system and I was out most of the day on Friday. We hope to get this out sometime this week. So hopefully we'll both be getting ours soon.
