  1. Okay, I didn't realize it was mastered by Rudy, hadn't found any of these that I have (I don't have this one) to have his mastering.* I have a Watkins, which is part of a "Special Edition" RVG series (also have Birth of the Cool and Mercy, Mercy, Mercy from this series.) These three are 24 bit by RVG, not 20 bit masterings. https://www.discogs.com/Doug-Watkins-Watkins-At-Large/release/7739826#images/40904986 *I just saw a good picture of the OBI on this release and see that it says 24 bit remastered by RVG. Interesting, that is the only one of the Super Bit Jazz Classic series I have seen that was a 24 bit remastering.
  2. Now on to the previously unreleased material also on this 3rd disc featuring Stan Getz with the trio.
  3. It is a Japanese cd, but it's in the Super Bit Jazz Classic series of 20 bit cd reissues in LP facsimile format, TOCJ-9351, and not an RVG cd. The US two cd set came out the following year, 2002.
  4. Bill Evans "Trio '64" material, disc 3 of the Complete Verve Recordings of Bill Evans.
  5. Wow. Sounding very good. Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" Mobile Fidelity Lab SACD.
  6. Three so far today, very good listening. This new OS for my DAC really took some tailoring and getting used to but I seem to have it dialed in very well and am enjoying the heck out of the sound. First, Dexter Gordon "Gettin' Around" Blue Note Japan UHQCD Followed by Joe Chambers, "Mirrors" Blue Note US cd Finally, a change of pace, Bob Dylan "Self Portrait" Sony Blu-Spec CD2, disc 2
  7. Miles Davis "Live Miles: More Music from the Legendary Carnegie Hall Concert" Sony LP Facsimile 20 bit cd. That darned hum. Great music. . . the live Sketches stuff always gets to me.
  8. Bob Dylan, Bootleg Series Vol. 15, "Travelin' Thru" disc 2
  9. Yes, quite different. I've heard neither. https://www.discogs.com/Bob-Beldens-Manhattan-Rhythm-Club-Princejazz/release/5183681
  10. Just listened to this on Billie Holiday "Songs for Distingue Lovers" Verve/Classic Records cd. OMG. I love Jimmy Rowles with Billie and what a band and what arrangements and what playing and singing. And this is one of the most wonderful sounding cds of fifties music I have.
  11. Bill Evans with Jeremy Steig "What's New" from the Complete Verve box set.
  12. I do too, and I really like the McFarland session as well.
  13. Shelly Manne/Bill Evans "Empathy" Verve Followed by Gary McFarland "The Gary McFarland Orchestra: Special Guest Soloist Bill Evans" Verve. Both these sessions are on disc one of the Complete Verve Recordings of Bill Evans.
  14. Tim Hagans & Marcus Printup "Hubsongs: The Music of Freddie Hubbard" Blue Note cd (promo)
  15. I have both of those volumes. They're. . . alright. Right now Benjamin Taubkin "Trio + 1" --this has been on repeat for a while. I really like Taubkin, and this has the added value of trumpeter Joatan Nascimento. It was featured for a short spell at less than five dollars Prime on amazon, but is still available for a bit more used. Followed by: "Sounds of Life" Benjamin Taubkin with the duo of Simone Sou and Guilherme Kastrup. More atmospheric world music than jazz but a fun listen.
  16. I'm slowly listening through it. Very good set!
  17. Art Pepper "The New York Album" from the new "Promise Kept" box set.
  18. Listened to the first disc of the cd version of Nat King Cole "Hittin' the Ramp" which arrived yesterday. Very good sound: clear and dynamic, excellent restoration and mastering of this vintage material. Nice booklet as well. Recommended for Cole fanatics.
  19. Ouch! Sorry, a couple of weeks ago it was 15 and shipping at amazon. My experience with Jazz Messengers has been okay. Last time it even seemed as if the order came quicker than previously, though it's been over a year since I ordered last.
  20. amazon has it for about 20. . . .More expensive than Jazz Messengers.
  21. That's probably next, so long wait for something else. But there's hope there will be more.
  22. Pete Losin updated his website with a retraction: Miles Davis Bootleg Series (October 2019) Contrary to what I posted here several weeks ago, the Sony/Columbia Legacy Miles Davis Bootleg Series is still alive, although the production schedule has been slowed down. Beginning in 2011 and continuing until 2018, Sony USA released six volumes of live and studio recordings. A seventh volume is in the works. Its release date has not been determined. http://www.plosin.com/MilesAhead/mdNews.aspx
  23. Wynton Marsalis "He and She" Columbia cd
  24. Dexter Gordon "GO" Blue Note Japan 24 bit by RVG cd Followed by Horace Parlan "Us Three" Blue Note Japan 24 bit by RVG cd
  25. +1. Thanks for everything John. Rest in peace. My best to your family.
