  1. I'll probably get around to them again. It's more my emotional state than the books themselves.
  2. I've done something I haven't done in a while: abandoned a few books I attempted and just weren't doing it for me. Now re-reading for about the fifth time "Martian Timeslip." This pressing.
  3. Well, you have many here behind you!
  4. It's not my money to be worried about, and I wouldn't say I am. J did ask "do you think it will be popular?" I don't think it will be as popular as other possible choices, that's my opinion on that. I'll buy at least one copy when it is released, however it is released.
  5. I would join Jim in urging you to put it all out JLH. But I also agree with MJzee that this may be the riskiest of the proposed titles as far as financial return.
  6. The two lp "Outtakes" collection from this LP box set.
  7. Certainly aged cheese elements. But damn, it's Jimmy Ponder.
  8. A great series. I never thought Atlantics could sound this good on cd. Vinyl in many cases when I can compare is still a bit better, but the digital versions have never sounded better to me. I have targeted many of them this year: the Coltrane, Giuffre, Coleman, Kirk, Jarrett, Lloyd, Mingus and Burton work among others. I'll keep picking up more, probably the Charles and Ellington for sure, before they disappear. Doesn't hurt that the price is right!

That Epic EP's Shihab sides are in the Fresh Sounds set.
  10. Hope it was a great one! Many many happy returns!

Maybe so. They're all however here: Jazz Sahib - Complete Sextets Sessions 1956-1957 (2-cd Set) http://www.freshsoundrecords.com/jazz_sahib_-_complete_sextets_sessions_1956-1957_2-cd_set-cd-4937.html

Not exactly like it, but the Shihab material here has been on cd on these two releases in the Savoy/Denon series. I have 'em and really like 'em.
  16. HEY, now we can petition Warners to release huge sets of Studio and Live Basie, etc. Most likely we may see some interesting reissues from Japan?
  17. Do you know someone who could act as your agent in this for a share of any money brought in? Who could do the legwork for you. . . take the logistics off your hands. That might be the best course. . . .

He was an awesome musician. I like what I have of his, the Savoy material, the "Summer Dawn" album, one on Black Lion . . . all the appearances with the Clarke Boland Big Band.
  19. Forgot how good this one is.

I haven't even read the notes. Nice pics. . . I have both the deluxe cd box and the vinyl edition, and the big lp sized book is nice to look at. I've always liked this music, I've had the original two lps since release. Definitely country trappings. It sort of mystified me at first but I love the singing on most songs and there are some nice arrangements. The extra material in the bootleg version is nice but unlike others I don't think it is better.
  21. Yeah, I found out from one of the people Ricky had on his facebook page and pre-ordered early this morning. Oh joy! http://www.mosaicrecords.com/prodinfo.asp?number=257-MD-CD
  22. Jimmy Giuffre is dead, your dad thankfully alive. There is a difference there. Of course it is great if an artist receives the royalties he is entitled to, especially because too many do not. I am bit partial about "estates" receiving royalties. I could not care less if children of an artist receive royalities. Spouses are a different story. It is nice, if you are able to contact people and find out, if someone is receiving royalities. However this is not practical for most releases. I bought an Laura Nyro live recording and of course I have no idea if anyone is receiving royalties. To base your purchasing decision on something you cannot influence is a bit strange. Who knows what deals artist may have signed in their lifetime. You are however influencing things if you buy illegitimate recordings--you are fostering more of them. And influencing whether an official release may be made. It's a complicated thing and I'm no saint. . .but I do hold off on buying often for a handful of reasons.
