Many happy happy returns!

I dig it. All. Right now

I watched that series this year as well, pretty much for the first time, because I watched very little of it when it originally aired, and none that I know of since. I found it fascinating. Falls apart somewhat near the end but a great ride. Soon I'll have to watch "Fire Walk with Me."

That's a good session. Now Pretty clean vinyl copy. But I think the cd sounds a bit better. Surprised me.
-
That's a really good point Jim. The box is acttractively priced. If interested, I'd act fast, looks as if they didn't make that many.

Well, it's psychedelic and slightly silly. I like it but I've liked it since it was a new record. . . .It's more like Crown than Pillow. (I like them in recorded order actually, Pillow then this one and then Crown, though all their albums hae some great qualities in my opinion. My Rega RP3 with the Elys2 cartridge and the TT PSU power supply arrived and is set up. And . . . wow. Just wow. I made a good choice. Great sound in conjunction with the PS Audio GCPH. Right now

That was funny. I saw that coming. It didn't help that he blocked the other tail pipe too with the cloth. Poor Jared Harris. He is sacrificed as the "bishop" in the Fringe finale, and is off Mad Men too now. Such a good actor, following in his dad's footsteps.

Hmmmm. . . haven't seen this on Amazon. I think I have all the releases in the box. It's decent Sun Ra if you like the 'Seventies and beyond Arkestra material. I find as time goes by that I prefer the Chicago, Philadelphia and earliest NYC recordings. The Evidence and ESP Disk releases are the ones I play most often. But if you like the Sun Ra that comes after these a LOT, then these are good choices, and the reissues are certainly done very well as far as mastering and presentation.

Sad. . . the poor guy. . . .
-
Sorry. I thought I'd have to have a larger bosom to do that!
-
Okay, I guess I got confused as to where I have it from then.

I still would love to see a four cd box set of the four nights at the Fillmore that made up "Miles Davis at Fillmore." I doubt there's video content to make a DVD, and I know that edited portions were released officially. But this material has been released as bootlegs, and it's probably the chunk of material I'd most like to have in a set like these.

I hope Mr. Kart realizes I thought that thread should not have been closed for an important reason or two, and was not criticizing his closing of duplicate threads in general.
-
Yes, I'm feeling that too.

Is it September yet?

Larry, If you had this it's likely these: This is the official Japanese release of part of the Juan-les-Pins concert: Here is the most commonly known bootleg of the remainder, says Montreux but that's misdirection: The Stockholm was part of a collector's cdr tree that circulated in the previous decade. As was the Berlin. Berlin was on bootleg cd as: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.plosin.com/images/covers/Berlin69-3-2.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.plosin.com/MilesAhead/Disco.aspx%3Fid%3DBerlin69-3&usg=__4KGMLcq3Rq7yxD5eLBGe29jkNrs=&h=299&w=600&sz=36&hl=en&start=1&zoom=1&tbnid=pRJ-BPAYKhgAFM:&tbnh=67&tbnw=135&ei=ygrNT9HWFITx0gG0qdGQDQ&prev=/search%3Fq%3DMiles%2BDavis%2BBerlin%2B1969%2BSupersonic%2BSS%2B201058%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26sa%3DN%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26tbm%3Disch&um=1&itbs=1 and video as: or Hot Chocolate HC-020.

Stuart, No. Double Image has been listed as a Paris recording, but it's from Rome. http://www.plosin.com/milesAhead/Sessions.aspx?s=691027 Paraphernalia is from Paris. http://www.plosin.com/milesAhead/Disco.aspx?id=Paraphernalia

At a less expensive price point, this Onkyo SACD player has gotten a lot of really good reviews on the Hoffman board and elsewhere, discontinued but available new (half original price) for 349 at amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002C73WRM/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Hope it was a great one!

Jefferson Airplane, After Bathing at Baxter's. Lon, say it isn't so! If you're looking at vinyl again, digital must be dying. He's just run out of things to buy. I know you like to pick on me, but that's just not true, I'm still buying plenty of cds. Lon, say it isn't so! If you're looking at vinyl again, digital must be dying. He's just run out of things to buy. That is somewhat my reason for getting back into vinyl. I found that I hadn't bought any CDs for months and one day I was in Stereo Jacks and saw some Van Gelder Blue Note vinyl in the LP bin so I figured I'd give it a try. Yes, it is fun. However, all the reasons I left vinyl in the old days are still there. The mint LPs that play like shit. The crappy sound on some pressings (unrelated to the vinyl itself). The scratched "new" records. The having to get up every 20 minutes to flip the record. Having to figure out which pressing is the best (and then finding a clean copy). I am having fun, but this feeling may not last forever. Little of that stuff bothered me before, and so far isn't bothering me now. . .

Matthew, I've read the Chandler about four times over three decades and it's fascinating, I get something new and different out of it each time. Right now

I recently bought the 100th Anniversary Denon SACD player, the Denon DCD-A100, at a discounted price of 1400 dollars. It's now hard to find, but the sound if this player is exceptional for SACD and you can access its 32 bit DACs to use with other components via coax, toslink and USB (handles iPod if you're into that). If it's in your price range, I recommend it. Weighs 32 pounds, and has extremely good build quality. Long warranty.

Yes, I'll stay away from 45s, don't have many anyway. Those sound great on cd, such as the Rolling Stones collection and the killer ABC Ray Charles set. You're right about fun, and the noise doesn't matter. Just listened to an Ohio Players lp that was beat to all get out but it put that fun right into the living room. And now I'm playing one that is close to my heart, and I have the cd and SACD but this lp is just spinning real memory.

Yes, that is a great set, I've been enjoying it this year.

I have both the AP SACD of ALS and the Verve SACD (which is an RVG mastering). I like them both, for different reasons. They both sound very good to me. If you've heard any of the AP Blue Notes or Impulse releases on SACD, this one falls right in that camp. Rather neutral and with the SACD resolution there is more ambiance and texture to the sound. Mastered quite low, so you have to crank the volume. The Verve I think I prefer though, it has more oomph to the sound, and it sounds closer to the LP to me, and I listened to this on LP quite a bit. I just connect to the Verve SACD a bit more. The Verve SACD sounds a lot like the Deluxe version with mastering by RVG, but with that extra resolution and resulting bit more room sound and dynamic texture. Ultimately it may come down to whether you really like "Hoffman style" or "RVG style" mastering. I'm not slavishly devoted to either. I like both reissues.
