  1. Well, the balance between r-section and front line is certainly different on these in comparison to the Prestige, BN, etc. But that seems to be a producer's choice. . . or may be. Anyway to say they are inaudible, muddy etc. . . NOT on my system. That's all I can say. I hear the balance difference, but the recorded quality seems to come out just fine on my system. I agree the music is great. Anyway, sorry Hans, didn't mean to steer the thread elsewhere really. Hope someone comes through for you. Unfortunately I only have one copy and won't part with it.
  2. I beg to differ, I enjoy the sound of many Savoy recordings. RVG recorded them a bit differently, but there are many with great sound. Just my opinion of course. I love the way the horns czn have a huge, almost supernatural sound and image on some of the Savoy stereo sides (for example some of the Hardin-Coltrane and the Curtis fuller session with Lateef.) I find the Denon cd series of Savoy titles to be very good sounding.
  3. Yes, that's right. http://www.jimihendrix.com/us/music/winterland-4cd-and-8lp-box-sets
  4. Some more information about the upcoming live Brubeck recording from Columbia Legacy: http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showpost.php?p=6959092&postcount=71
  5. Not out til November 1, but two of the "Complete Album" collections sold by Pop market are bargain priced for pre-order. http://www.amazon.com/Columbia-Masters-Earth-Wind-Fire/dp/B005L12SH6/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1316219361&sr=1-1 http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Albums-Collection-Nina-Simone/dp/B005LTDPFW/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1316219443&sr=1-1
  6. Unless you went with the free shipping option. Then a few days later.
  7. Jazz Thrash, just want to say welcome to the board!
  8. This season is even better viewed on disc. (And the Blu-Ray is beautiful in sound and picture). So much I missed on broadcast or didn't "hit me" . . . . Great season. Looking forward to next.
  9. That's pretty easy to determine with an internet search. Here you go: http://www.music-news.com/showreview.asp?H=Jimi-Hendrix-Experience%3Cbr-/%3EWinterland-(4-x-CD-Set)&nReviewID=7408 That discussion is really marred by one member who goes on and on about how the six cd version by "the Jeffry Estate" isn't a bootleg and how terrible it is for Experience Hendrix to not release the whole thing, to leave off one particular performance, to edit performances, and just plain hates the Experience Hendrix releases in general. Some of these posts have been deleted.
  10. But not necessarily if there is a direct correlation between footfalls and skipping.
  11. I received this Wednesday. Excellent sound. There's been editing done to some tracks, and they did remove most of the chaff from what could be six cds to make four. . . that upsets some people but not me. The extra disc is most of a Dagger Records release and is very nice. (There's a bit more on the Dagger release itself). Sound is decent, some nice performances. A new version of In the West is out, without the tracks from Royal Albert Hall, and with other tracks from San Diego in their place and as expanded material. It really doesn't work as In the West, but that said, it's a kick ass release, killer sound.
  12. Can you put a shelf on the wall? Is it on a nice and sturdy rack of any kind?
  13. That story about the Like a Rolling Stone session is also in the "No Direction Home" cd liner notes. Great story.
  14. I like Ewell a lot. And Morton, and Jones. And Guarnieri. And HODES--love that guy. I'm a big fan of pianists.
  15. Many happy returns!
  16. That's okay. That will help me to get crackin' on my plans for world domination.
  17. T-Bone Waler, John Lee Hooker and Jimi Hendrix are my blues guys. Never have been big on Bloomfield (I know that's a fighting phrase here, but it's just what it is).
  18. Many many happy happy returns!
  19. You do what? Maybe you could quote the post you're responding to, that would be easier for dummies like me. Quoting all the time is pretty boring. There was no post in between mine and Larry's when I hit add reply, and I thought it wouldn't be hard to figure out. It may be boring, but sometimes the reply appears several posts later than the post it's a response to and its relevance and/or logic gets lost in the mist of a topic. Okay, I didn't think it was that hard to figure out, but I would have done the quote thing if there were posts in between mine and JLHoot's when I hit "add reply." Joel, thanks for clarifying. I sometimes feel really frustrated when I read these posts that seem to be so negative and yet I know they serve a purpose too. Best wishes on the release, I think it's going to be a good one!

  21. Joel. We need you here. We need your viewpoint, your sermons. Don't go anywhere.
  22. I received Vol. 15 from Worlds Records six days ago. . . .
  23. Hi Joel. Beautiful guitar. Enjoy your posts and posting.

  24. I agree with Hot Ptah re: Clapton for the most part. Rather unfortunate remarks he made there on stage, ah well. I can listen to Sun Ra after listening to some of his speeches too. I really like Clapton as a sort of rootsy country guy, I think that's really his best niche. "No Reason To Cry" lp and some of the songs along those lines on following albums. His singing works then and he arranges the songs nicely and doesn't feature his blues playing. I agree that this release is likely a mistake. I'm really not a fan of listening to music on youtube so I'll probably check the cd out sometime soon. But I do have some Clapton in my collection. Don't own any SRV.
