I've had good luck getting what I expect from amazon sellers; I bought one today from one for 8 bucks and shipping.

Well, I haven't really paid attention to Stones lps since "Some Girls." But of the Stones lps I did have and did listen to, "Exile" was my favorite, it was just sort of raw and "anti-commercial" seeming to me at the time. It's the only Stones I have had on cd, and even though it doesn't sound great I like the music. I placed an order for a used copy of the Virgin cd.

Okay RR, thanks, I'll think about looking for the Virgin.

Lou Donalson on Argo/Cadet - How Much Is There...
jazzbo replied to JSngry's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Hmmm. . . I wonder if you sent copies of those to the right person if we'd see an "Andorran" version on cd shortly thereafter. -
Many many happy happy returns~!

I think Draper has enough to supply a few medical schools.

Finally got the Threadgill last week from amazon.fr Now I have all those released. Great series.

I got a lot out of the series. I really enjoyed a lot of the unusual story-telling and the unraveling of the life history of the characters. I suspect, and I think the producers have shown this season, that this was the real meat of the series, and the island mystery and mythology was the bun and condiments. Successful television as far as I'm concerned. Glad I had the experience, glad I have the Blu-Rays, and also glad it ended now.

I have the very earliest cd, sounds on the shitty side but may in fact be closer to the original sound than this new remaster. I don't need the bonus material. I think I'll stick with what I have.

Definitely don't feel like a sucker! Enjoyed the six year ride. I wasn't totally satisfied with the overall "explanation" but I thought the final episode was well directed, filmed and acted, and pretty well-written. I think that the book coming out in a few months will be appreciated and necessary for a certain type of fan. After a bit of reflection, I'd say the producers took a wise path to the conclusion. Nothing they could have done was going to satisfy everyone. Their choice to fulfill the character journeys (in a sense, not sure that's the best phrase) was satisfying for me.

Hmmm. . . .Live at the Plugged Nickel seems to be stocked again at amazon, for about 130 dollars, ships in "9-10 days."

I don't pay enough attention to alternate takes...
jazzbo replied to Shawn's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Yes, he's talking about the Larry Young lp. There were additional takes circulated among collectors. I don't really have a checkbox to select. I don't ignore or adore alternate takes, I don't usually pay too much attention to them unless it's an album I really enjoy. Usually I just play a disc all the way through, and listen to what's on it. If the alternate version is significantly different (much longer, much shorter, etc.) I might pay closer atttention. -
Great music, especially the Keynote material.

The Amsterdam sounds about the same as the Ullyse release. Great concert.
-
That doesn't surprise me. I've long noticed the effects of resonance and isolation and lack of the latter etc. Did the sound improve?

This is a real good 'un.

What Clifford said. And also, many many happy happy returns.

It's an interesting release. I don't in any way feel it's superior to New Rays of the Rising Sun. It's nothing more than a compilation of loose ends, but a satisfying one for me (I'm a Jimi nut, but my favorite Jimi is the final two years, and this material falls in that time frame, though I prefer material with Billy Cox on bass.) To me this is in some ways representing the type of tracks Mike Jeffry might have wished Jimi would release on album, in comparison with the more adventurous and funky material on New Rays of the Rising Sun, and South Saturn Delta. It's safer, blues-based stuff that Jeffry could see thousands of white people going to the stadiums to hear and see. That said, the sound is excellent, and the digital tricks quite acceptable to me.

I had years of problems with my local UPS. The driver decided that I pretty much had to sign for anything important he thought was an expensive delivery because they were building houses across the street from me and he didn't feel secure leaving them on the porch or even the back porch. The shipper didn't require it, but according to UPS policy he was allowed to make that call. He did this about eight times. I'd have to take off work or go to the Center , etc. Drove me nuts. When I questioned the guy about it he was very evasive but finally after a few attempts confided in me that because there were "Mexicans" working across the street he wouldn't leave packages. These workers had been working across the street building houses (the whole side of the street had sold and was being turned into McMansons) for months and months and were friendly and professional. It was pure bigotry. I didn't know what to do about it, but immediately after that he no longer was my area's UPS driver, and I had no problems with his replacement.

We've Heard About Your Buying - What About Your Listening?
jazzbo replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I voted: around 5 hours a day - up to 35 hours a week (1 votes [20.00%]) most of the time I'm multi-tasking I've been retired for two years (though I'm planning on looking for work soon). Thus, lots of time for listening. Life is good. -
For non-portable use, there are some interesting machines now that have licensed from Apple the ability to extract the digital files directly from the iPod and bypass the internal DAC in the iPod and really give out great sound. I have a Wadia "iTransport" that really does a good job in that respect, I have used it feeding two different DACs and the sound of cds with lossless encoding is nearly indistinguishable from the source disc through the same DAC. The Wadia was the first, but there is als an Onkyo item now, and a Peach Tree Audio "Decco" integrated amplifier that has a docking station for the iPod that extracts the digital stream from the iPod and puts it through a nice non-oversampling DAC. The Decco makes the heart of a really nice second system.

Guess you have to use the iPod EQ then. I have the first Monitor Audio "iDeck" which has fantastic sound, and speakers that separate. It has a massive wall wart power supply, that seems to be the secret to its success. It was discounted very cheaply three years or so ago, and a real bargain. I bought two, and gave one to a friend and it's still her main stereo (you can run in an auxiliary cd player etc., she plugs a dvd player into it). If you can find this I'd recommend it; of about a half dozen of these I've used this one had clearly superior sound. Being able to spread the speakers out is a big plus. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Monitor-Audio-i-deck-Speaker-Dock/dp/B000ASB2FE/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

How Would You Describe Your Music Collecting
jazzbo replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Why you would think that. Some bring high value in the aftermarket. Like I say, a few keep their value or even appreciate a little, but I think many are worth little, especially where there is a newer version. I should think that the overall value of most collections has dropped significantly, especially bearing in mind that selling has costs which would eat away further at the value. There are some cds that only seem to be worth money on the Hoffman board! -
I'm a big Geri Allen fan. It took a while, but I've learned to like her two most recent Telarc recordings.

Isn't the number still also on the invoice? (I don't think I've saved any recent invoices to check.)
