REVISITED is all kindsa sweet! Especially the tracks with Kenny Burrell. Does it seem like Red got a little more adventurous on the Jazzland label? In addition to two trio albums, he also recorded an album with Les Spann on guitar and flute (SOLAR), and a quintet album with Blue Mitchell & Pepper Adams in the front line, and the Jones men (Sam & Philly Joe) completing the rhythm. The latter album has a very definite Blue Note Byrd/Adams vibe to it. I wish Mosaic would do a Select of Red's Galaxy recordings, as there seems to have been a final burst of recording over four days in 1979 with lineups that varied between trios and a sextet, which were released on four or five LPs. Seems to be the perfect candidate for the 3-CD treatment. Except we were advised by Mosaic at one point never to expect a set with Fantasy/Concord material.

Other things? Like using fraud . . . destroying his past? Causing his brother to commit suicide? Being a callous totally self-absorbed bastard to Menckenet al? I am sure your father is a better human being. I think it's an excellently produced show. I just think that the characters are awful people. I wish they'd written a different story. . . I believe this is retroactive nostalgic overblown misrepresentation. I'm really disappointed because I want to be esctatic about this show. Watching La Femme Nikita season one. Entertaining.

I don't really think the male chauvinism on the series is "glorified and glamorized" at all...it's just a fact of life, which it was. Your mileage, as the kids say, may of course vary quite a bit. The character I had the most problem with for a long time was Pete Campbell. He was the guy I "loved to hate." Such a pathetic douche...never more so when he was like a little boy trying to put on the grown-up shoes...which was most of the time. But I've even lightened up on him a bit lately. He can't help himself. (The douche...) Well, I just will agree to disagree. I detest Draper more and more and can't ever understand douche Campbell. And I've seen enough of this type of behavior in real life hurt women I know to just find it entertaining. I can't "dig" these characters.

Oh I know what you mean. . . . I think its the chauvinism and the plain abuse of women that makes me dislike these people and not "dig" them. I've been seeing less severe examples of this all my life and despising it, and to see it glorified and glamorized by these punks just makes me unable to enjoy them. I'm beginning to despise them. I was just a kid during these years and I don't know how accurate this portrayal is. So I definitely enjoy some aspects of the series, and I think I'm beginning to enjoy despising these characters too. . . I keep watching (I got cable for the first time in my life last week, so got to see the premiere (which I though was weak) on broadcast; the other seasons I've watched on Blu-Ray.

I have all the Legacy editions and the box sets, and some of the single editions from the 90s and early 2000s. I've done some comparisons and the sound is different, improved. As Hans notes that doesn't have to mean the mixes are significantly different, but there are tonal balance differences; I prefer the newer editions. Columbia/Sony has pretty consistently spent the money to remaster recordings for new release; they seem to understand that this is one reason part of the market buys these new editions, and I think they'd be a less successful program if they did not. The Btubeck Newport disc has both great music and great sound (especially for Newport recordings).

I watched my uncle Jack Armstrong play the role of President of Lillian Foods on "Leverage" tonight. He did a good job! His first television role, and he's a natural.

I remember reading that the "agreement/deal" with JVC for K2 releases by OJC fell through or was not renewed or carried over when Concord bought the company. That may be the real thing or not. What is clear is that at one point they ceased to produce domestic K2 versions. This is all so system dependent I find. I really don't prefer the K2 to a lot of other releases. I've become a fan of Tarantino's 24 bit work, and find that I prefer Kirk Felton transfers to some K2 versions, I like the RVGs, etc. Others clearly hear things differently through their systems. It's nice to have options, which we do/did for a lot of the material.

Glad you had a great day! Many happy returns! -
Joe, the Mary Poppins album isn't great. I've learned to find it good. But you can skip it. However if you get a chance to get the Reprise Ellington Mosaic reasonably priced, go for it. Great set.

I love her voice and the way she sings. So sure and calm.

Amazon.com says this was discontinued by the manufacturer. I had never seen an indication that it was ever released. That's the extent of my knowledge. Would be a good one to have.

Well, they used to. . . .

I don't have any problems with the remaster. . . I like it.

Big fan. One of the sexiest women in the world. I really like her lyrics. Positive, supportive, about the good kind of love. My girlfriend and I listen to her a lot. I think if something ever went wrong with this relationship, I might not be able to listen to Sade for a long long time.

I can't tell you as I've never heard that one. . . but it does sound better to me than the box set which probably shared the same mastering as that cd.

I just wish the main characters weren't such assholes! I desperately want to really empathize with someone on that show, and can't. Just lots of male macho fantasy men, and some unhappy unwise women.

Sometimes it's hard to explain why you like a musician, but I'll tell you that many times after listening to Bill Evans, it seems that all other "jazz" music sounds childish by comparison. If I had to pick my favorite jazz musician (and that's not easy to do,) it would have to be Bill Evans. It happens that people get tired of a certain type of music after a while, but Bill Evans' music sticks. It really does. I agree with you in many ways. Evans' music does make an emotional impact and connects with me. It will always be in my listening rotation. It definitely does something to me.

I only know this sound from 78s, lps, cds. . . .never heard a guitar in person that utilized these real pickups. But it's a cool, primal jazz sound, and different from later sounds. I can understand why someone is trying to faithfully replicate it.

Getting close to the end of the whole Battlestar Galactica. This was good TV. There are some aspects of the series I don't enjoy, but it was a very successful attempt at bringing a new form of science fiction to the screen. They did a really good job with the Blu-Ray edition.

Wow, looks like a real nice pickup recreation.

In my opinion, yes. My best sounding source is the SACD, but the new two cd release has excellent sound and very well selected extra material. Nice booklet and packaging art too.
