  1. I haven't owned these speakers but I've owned two sets of larger speakers from this builder, and frankly I won't buy equipment from another builder, he makes excellent machines. The planar tweeter here is the same as used in my current speaker and a fast and clear one. I've read good reviews of these. . . . http://www.decware.com/newsite/dm944.htm
  2. I sold my second comic book collection when I moved to Texas from Ohio in 1980. Was able to buy a new Honda motorcycle. (My first collection was stored in Philadelphia when we were in Africa and contained almost every issue of the Marvel "universe" from 1962 to 1966. The warehouse it was stored in burned down before we returned to America.) Since then I've sold partws of my cd holdings but never "my collection." Knocking on wood. Currently debt free, including mortgage free.
  3. Dr. Strangelove Sin City (well, it has some color)
  4. I'm not sure I understand who or what Brute Force is. . . but I really like Moshi, I think it's a "real deal."
  5. Well I don't have the Tjader in anything other than the regular OJC and don't have a problem. I have both the Mobile Fidelity and the Legacy of the Ellington, and don't have a problem. Maybe it's stereo system differences or something. I think the Ellington is a beautiful stereo recording. Columbia had some of the best at the time to my ears.
  6. Interesting, but I've not the same problem with either the Getz/Tjader nor the Ellington. . . cds. Are we talking cds here?
  7. Me, I like it fine but I want to reach out and dampen Steve Ellington's ride cymbal or readjust the mike!
  8. Sad news. What a voice, now stilled!
  9. Mono shmono. What are youse guys, Steve Hoffman regulars?
  10. why the "quotation marks"? Either stuff is public domain, or it isn't. No need for "quotation marks" I should think. Or is the music contained not public domain? The quotation marks weren't meant to denote anything special.
  11. Ed, of course we remember you amigo. So happy to hear this news! Love and companionship are the best things the human condition can offer. Congratulations!
  12. Yes, I will.
  13. I have all three sets. . .I like the Gillespie least, but it's not the strongest Diz material, and I'm a big fan of early jazz so the Bix is wonderful for me (I have almost all the material elsewhere as well). The Pres set. . . I'll reach for it much more often than the Diz (and I have all the material previouslly released on this one as well, and love how here it is all together in uniformly wonderful sound. My next Mosaic is the OP Trio one, then the Akiyosha-Tabackin Orchestra one. I have all the in print sets.
  14. Definitely worth getting that cd. . . if you don't have all the Eddie Condon Town Hall volumes as I do!
  15. I no longer have my SACD set -up (had to get new amp for HDTV) but my memory is that they'd changed the placement of the bass on the SACD. Not that the original was necessarily more "correct"-- just what i was used to hearing for more than 30 years. Doesn't seem any different to me than the cd and box set versions in any "mix" or placement sense.
  16. Happy Birthday Mike! Many happy happy returns!
  17. I think the best sounding versions to my ears are the Japanese DSD remastered cd and the US SACD. I have one of the lp versions, the gold cd, the box set version, and the DSD remastered cd and the SACD.
  18. Allen, glad to have you back with us! You're a good husband on top of a lot of other good qualities.
  19. Yeah, well don't let your girlfriend go hungry for it! It's a fun listen but . . . wait and see if it gets a European relase if you have to pay that much.
  20. These were actually very good albums. . . And there's a lot of music here! I've preordered.
  21. I've been enjoying this one for a few years and then recently bought the new reissue. Pretty trippy, yes. Flurin is right, get Moshi posthaste!
  22. Many many more happy happy ones!
  23. What? Too tightly plotted by the I Ching? It's a book that gets better and better when reread (I've read it four times). Some very nice writing, for PKD, in there.
  24. Okay, you know what he meant to say! Don't overlook ANY of the appearances with Max Roach.
