  1. Now listening to a few discs of the Complete RCA box set. (Why isn't all of Town Hall on a box set purporting to be complete? You'd think OK had a hand in it!) Such powerful music! Happy Birthday Pops! (Comin' up tomorrow!)
  2. I feel similarly to Guy I think. . . .I really don't have issues with his playing, the man had a phenomenal talent, but I just never connected emotionally to any of the music. It just spilled out of the speakers and missed me. I did like the trio with Hall and Shorter most. . . probably because of Hall. My interest in Wayne was then wayning and I just let the whole box set go.
  3. I've read the "Sorry, We're Closed" version even offers instant messaging and multimediajukeboxing programs.
  4. Are you calling MC and Mosaic liars?
  5. The Mosaic Single notes do offer an explanation, I was wrong: according to those the 3 track tapes were cut up to make the lp master (intertwined with applause, announcements, etc.) so they used the uncut mono tapes.
  6. Here's one: those middle-aged musicians playing "Viva Viagra" on the tv ad . . . http://www.adverblog.com/archives/003143.htm
  7. Thanks. I heard a copy at a friend's in Ohio years ago that was stereo. . . it might have been. . .fake?
  8. I'd like to read a 700 page book about so much more known than is now known of the building of the Sphinx and the society that created it.
  9. No explanation given. I have a copy of the lp . . . it also was mono.
  10. I have to list about as much as I can carry fast, because my "favorite" has shifted so much; these are ones that have brought me some deep and intense listening joy for long stretches of time: Charlie Parker Mingus Teagarden Roulette Classic Capitol Armstrong
  11. Great call! Great album! I've loved the French CBS version I had of this (as part of the 1947-1952 set which is so valuable!) and the US reissue just increases the majesty.
  12. I've got to get this! This is a really good one, a sleeper!
  13. I've heard about this disc before. It's really expensive on Amazon! Does anyone know if the music is available elsewhere? I'm particularly interested in the quintet sessions with Clark Terry and Bob Wilber. Thanks! You know what? I don't think this music IS available elsewhere at this time, which is a crying shame!
  14. I like it. Excellent sound. If you liked the material on the live session that is on studio here, and are someone who can have multiple versions of the same thing and not squeam, this is likely to please. It does duplicate some live tracks, but would it have been better for them to have left it a shorter cd? Well maybe, but . . . . Anyway, I would be hardpressed to agree with the liner notes that all the studio tracks are "better" than the live performance ones they replaced on the original lp; I really find this sort of thing falls more in the "different than" category than "better." I felt the same way about the live and studio versions of Newport '56. I'm glad to have both.
  15. Well, I've heard part of those on lps (Ozone maybe?) and they sounded bad. I don't know. . .maybe Rose and his pals had a bad recording spell there. Anyway, it would be great to have these in better sound; if the source material sounds that bad. . . we may only get it from Andorran firms.
  16. No kidding, especially if the sound were magically better!
  17. I was only able to catch about 30 minutes; it was a very entertaining 30 minutes.
  18. I decided to preorder the Chambers (hate the sound on the version I have) and the Jordan (love this session). . . they'll be the first of the batch I buy.
  19. I bought this set when it first came out. . .and sold it shortly thereafter. There was nothing I wanted to keep, sadly.
  20. Those look cool. Those ARE cool!
  21. I want a copy of Philip K. Dick's "UBIK Screenplay" that I can afford. I'd love a set of books collecting all the early histories and romances of Alexander (the Great).
  22. As one of my coworkers would say, "Oh sure, just find a stickier band-aid, that'll work!"
