Buddy Rich Mosaic, disc one, this set hit my doorstep today.

Strange Strings is truly bizaare in a good way. I already got a copy of this, preordered it from Atavistic and it arrived in the mail last Saturday.

I like a few of the Fat Cat's stuff. . . but overall there's not much needs to be on cd. . . Except. . . . The Bechet airchecks from Storyville! One of the last treasure troves to get the really great cd reissue treatment.

I'll let you experience it without preconceptions. . . . Up with All People Lon-o says.

I've only listened to disc one so far, several times. Interesting. . . the diatribe against the white race is. . .unsettling. The music is good, the sound is okay.

Yes, Marantz amps can sound really nice. I gave away a few years ago a seventies Marantz receiver that was a great unit. . . gave it to my brother because though it had plenty of powers for my speakers I prefered my (then) Zen Select. What I've done is buy Decware Monoblocks that have that Select sound but three times the watts and man I'm so happy with them. . . .Deckert wants me to send them back and allow him to put in an improved power supply, and I've stalled for over a year because I just can't bear to put them in an box and mail them off and be without them for as much as a month (though I've got a Proton amplifier I can use that really sounds fine, but. . . ) I have some really interesting audio moments lately. The first minute of the new "Kirk's Works" RVG scaares me. . . when Kirk comes in it makes me jump unless I'm really ready for it! And Daredevil's 'billy club' went whistling past my ear I swear last time I popped in that dvd!

Try playing some twenties Pops, Duke, Bix, etc. . . . My favorite remark was "what cartoon is that music from?" Of course this was from a guy who likes "both kinds of music. . .country AND western."

That's interesting. . . I have Decware RL2s and I really like the sound with Rock. . .and love the sound with jazz. I can't imagine being without them! But it's all so personal these things!

I was very disappointed as well. . . . UGH. Blake is okay but really not deserving but Melinda and Jordin split a lot of votes giving him the chance to have the #2 spot, . . .Melinda? It's not fair but this show rarely is. She should be there next week right on stage, then we'd see a workout! Got to keep rooting for Jordin. . . no conflict now, I can be solidly behind Jordin.

Okay, I've made my last addition to the system for a while now (I hope!): the CSP2 preamp from Decware. Mine doesn't exactly look like this pictured, as it is custom built in the previous black chassis to match all my other Decware components. It's amazing the transformation that this preamp has made of my system. I've had it over five weeks now, and it's added an ease and a weight to the sound I didn't think possible. It's breathed a bit of dynamicism to the sound that takes one a few steps closer to a real sound, and the bass is finally right in my system, tight, deep and anchoring the presentation. No frequency range stands out, all seems natural and as it should be. I even enjoy McMasters more. Not only that, but I can now run my quite nice sounding Sony dvd recorder through the system and watch tv thus expanding the use of my system and even my wife is appreciating that. I'm one happy camper. If you're in need of a preamp (or headphone amp) I'd recommend this output transformerless little marvel. http://www.decware.com/newsite/mainmenu.htm

Ella with Chick Webb. Wow! Ella in the forties on Decca. Wow! Ella with full Orchestra on the Ellington Songbook. Wow! Those works will always get me going. I'm less overtly jazzed about Ella beyond those parameters, but I'll reach for her and get something from it that is all hers. Ella Starbuckle? I'll pass. If you crank up "Ella in Rome" right near the final groove you can hear that it's maybe mutual. . . I hear her maybe saying "fuck edc."

Sonny was awesome, I've loved all I've heard of him.

I hear that Solar was actually originally titled "Alternate Energy."

Chris (good to see you back) I might have agreed with you about the show if I'd seen it, maybe not (I was one young hormone driven man at that time) but I sure like the albums and glad these were reissued (great production on these).
