  1. Thanks. That's a good cd and a good price. . . . I don't need two copies though!
  2. You're welcome. It's my guess that she probably did the right thing. Probably kept her healthier and wiser. Probably was a hard choice to make!
  3. Garth. . . what is this one? Duke Ellington, β€œAt Birdland.” – Blue Note - $5.00 Is it the Jazz Unlimited cd? the other (French?) cd?
  4. Nice article: http://www.seattleweekly.com/2007-05-02/mu...n-the-attic.php
  5. Somehow I've always pictured Betty messin' with a few heads in a "You're so Vain you probably think this song is about you" sort of way.
  6. They often ship on orders from their website in advance of the "release date". Can't guarantee that, but I've received CDs a couple of weeks in advance. I ordered my copy from Atavistic directly and it arrived today. Awesome sound!
  7. I was just listening to this in my iPod yesterday. I've had about six of these Brown 24/96 lp facimile cds from Japan (bought from Red Trumpet, at a great price) and they sound great.
  8. It's awesome.
  9. Stay alive just to spite the writer.
  10. I think you'll find the odd quintet configuration in the final decade. I've got to agree that this is a great set that holds up well. . . and I too like the material without John a lot (like the material with him as well). So glad this was finally released!
  11. Actually, I've never been a member of the "cover art is a big deal" school. I do find that with material I bought really early on in my "search" and know very well, that box sets sometimes make for a disconcerting listening. . . and on the flip of that sometimes ear-opening listening. . . because my familiarity of the programming is challenged.
  12. Yes, after I heard how great the Cannonball sounded, I picked this one up. Great sound.
  13. Terrific! It's a big band album of first order! Originally on Philips, not on Columbia, I think. I've always tried to liike this one. . . but don't really. Just me!
  14. Yes, I find with this material I really want the individual albums. So much history for me with the lps! I solved this by getting (from Ken, or Gray, at great prices) all the lp facimile Sony cds of these albums, AND the box set. . . and sort of rotate these back and forth.
  15. I'm at 6.99 now finally. Still a good deal for the occasional binge and if they DO get BN RVGs and Conoisseurs in the future.
  16. Clem, I just don't agree, sorry. It's all just your opinion, and my opinion.
  17. He's a fascinating player. . . I really love his stuff. This is my most recent and most favorite of Hoopii cds: Sol Hoopii and his Novelty Quartette http://www.originjazz.com/
  18. Andrew Hill Select (first one) disc three
  19. I think it would be surprising should we see many more yourmusic batches of these Blue Notes. . . .They seem to have abandoned real jazz!
  20. I guess I'm just different because I've read the Spinrad and the Silverberg you cite, and I've read tons of Kutner and Leiber and I just don't think they do it better. I agree that PKD didn't always write with the greatest prose, but I find his characters and his insight into the American Nightmare to be so much better than those of those. (And I find his writing in the nonSF to be better prosewise by a wide margin). Personal opinions and viewpoints I guess.
  21. Well figures I'd disagree but I often do, and strongly as here.

    Pharoah Sanders

    And. . .Sun Ra.
  23. I LIKE the Holiday tribute. (And the Baker's Keyboard Lounge, great stuff!) Would be glad to see some new material on cd!
  24. Here's what I recommend as a release that really shows the scope of her talent (to me at least). 20 Anos de Saudade, a collection of singles, EPs, etc.
  25. ? I wouldn't say that! I feel she's presented and stands a bit apart from the crowd of bossa nova and even Tropicalisma folk as a sort of mass media star, and you have to chart waters in a diffferent world to collect her material to a certain extent. I think what I most admire about her is her utter confidence to be herself. And her almost supernatural ease in the spotlight.
