  1. I think it was those sound clips that piqued my interest, it's not as wild and wooly as I expected. same here - don't think i'll start with a nine cd box but i definitely have to check out some braxton soon... Not start with a nine cd box set?????????????? What are you, some kind of coward???????????? :D

  3. Thanks for that, I'm almost on the fence on this one now, I am definitely considering thinking about maybe buying this one.
  4. I actually have a still sealed copy of that, still haven't got around to listening to it though.
  5. Allen why so sensitive? I had no idea it was so easy, or fun, to get under your skin. I was just worried that by taking on all these "missions" and what with your A.D.D. you might be spreading yourself a bit thin. As you will be embarking on a letter writing campaign another "mission" you might consider is the "when to use capital letters mission". When you're writing to "grown ups" or "adults" it may help get you point across or even taken seriously, which for you would be a victory in itself. Also is this new "mission" going to cause another delay to the editing of the famous Wynton Marsalis footage? I really hope not as I think we've all been waiting long enough to see it as it is. Oh yeah and I'll see your juvenile "mother joke" and raise you, tell you mother/sister/daughter/that hideous mutt in your avatar, that I'm sorry I wasn't able to pay her for the other night, it's just I had nothing smaller than a 20 and next time I'm not wearing the S.S. uniform no matter how much it turns her on, those jodhpurs really chaff.
  6. Just out of curiosity, if this is your "new" mission, what was your "old" mission, and did you complete it?
  7. Word to the mutha-fuckin g. Sngry, I found a waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better version, here.
  8. Word to the mutha-fuckin g.
  9. I have a Japanese mini-lp version of "Roland Kirk Meets the Benny Golson Orchestra" if that's any good to you. I'll send a PM.
  10. Oops! I was asleep! And after all the trouble you caused, eg I now know who this Jason Mraz putz is. You should be ashamed of yourself. :D
  11. Nice one, I think I was most interested in the tracks with Ellington, but I just might have to check it out.
  12. You're being a little vague there Sngry. :D So they are both of similar quality and vintage? I suppose I was wondering if "More Jazz From The East Village" was actually a recording of a gig rather than a gig in Peter Inds appartment. The only slight complaint I would make about "Release Record - Send Tape", and I mean slight, I or even we, should be extermely grateful for Peter Ind's foresight in recording Warne at that time, but on some of the shorter tracks, and I'm sure they were edited for a reason, it sounds as if Marsh is just getting warmed up and about to hit his stride and then it stops, again I'm sure there is a good reason for this, but it doesn't stop me from saying "no don't stop, keep going", sometimes I even say it out loud.
  13. Your wish is my command. :D Complete Live at Montreux 1972 Track Listing 1. Captain Marvel 2. Day Waves 3. Windows 4. Times Lie 5. I Remember Clifford 6. Lush Life 7. La Fiesta 8. Desafinado 9. La Fiesta I have it but haven't really gone through it in depth yet, I remember that the bass was really loud on the first track but they seem to get better balance as the set goes on, IIRC. The last 2 tracks are from Poland in 1974, for some reason, not the same line up obviously.
  14. So I take it you have this CD and are giving it the proverbial thumbs up?
  15. I recently purchased "Release Record - Send Tape" by Warne Marsh from Peter Ind at Wave, I've only gone through it once so far but I'm quite impressed, good sound quality too. So I'm curious about this one now, "More Jazz From The East Village", also by Warne Marsh, Does anyone have both of them?, are they both from the same sessions? Are they comparable in quality? Sound samples for both can be found amoungst others here.
  16. I don't know if this is really a new release, it must have been out before in some format. Has anyone come across these recordings before? Here is the blurb and the cover; Product Description For the first time ever, Thelonious Monk's complete trio performance at Newport 1958 (only an edited version of "Blue Monk" with overdubbed announcements had been previously released on the film Jazz on a Summer's Day). This CD also contains Monk's splendid and also unissued quartet concert at the same festival the following year. As a bonus, the only two existing tracks featuring Monk with the Duke Ellington band, recorded at Newport '62 and also appearing here for the first time. 12 tracks. Gambit. 2008. 1 JUST YOU, JUST ME 4:16 2 BLUE MONK 4:54 3 'ROUND MIDNIGHT 4:33 4 WELL YOU NEEDN'T 3:42 5 IN WALKED BUD 9:49 6 BLUE MONK 8:44 7 CREPUSCULE WITH NELLIE 2:33 8 WELL YOU NEEDN'T 8:29 9 RHYTHM A NING 7:09 10 Announcement by Duke Ellington* 0:22 11 MONK'S DREAM* 5:22 12 BA-LUE-BOLIVAR-BA-LUES-ARE* 4:24
  17. I can only agree with Dan, sounds like a scam or just incredibly bad luck on his part, but aren't circuit boards pretty difficult to break???
  18. After all this positive feedback I suppose I'm just going to have to give this one another chance, really did nothing for me the first time though.
  19. As I keep the CD cases out of the boxes and as both the Mobley and the Tristano, Konitz and Marsh sets come in those old style large cd cases, I think I could manage to grab both. But then I'd miss the booklets so I'd probably risk the burns to go back and get them.
  20. Lowe you must be the only man approaching 60 who has ADD.
  21. Well if ever anyone needed to justify their decision to turn to drugs, being stuck in car with you has got to be one of the best reasons ever. Even if he got busted that day he could have just thrown himself on the mercy of the Court, "you don't understand your Honour, he just wouldn't shut up, if he wasn't going on about his 2 hour meeting with Tristano, he was blathering on about how he knew Al Haig, it was none stop, then it was about his "movie", on and on, I just had to get something to kill the pain."
  22. Sounds like he's not-so subtley cashing in on / ripping off this guy's version of Over The Rainbow. As for Steve Martin, The Jerk is one of the best movies ever made but he really hasn't been funny since he started doing those Parenthood movies. Didn't he have a dog called "Shithead" in The Jerk?
  23. If I may quote that oft quoted line from "The Life of Brian", you lucky, lucky bast......... :D
  24. DMP's comment about Elvin and Art's earlier group reminded me of this post Vanguard recording; I think it's only a week after the Vanguard and it has Cables on piano but has Michael Formanek and Eddie Marshall on bass and drums. Again, I haven't listened to it in a while but I remember that the fast numbers were really fast, maybe there were more uppers than downers for everybody that evening. :D
  25. I don't know but you really need to follow your own advice and put me on your ignore list, oh yeah and finish your film.
