I'm reaching the end of the Dial box, listening to the last disc today. It's poignant to see that Ross Russell only recorded one session after the last Bird session; I guess he lost interest after he lost Bird to Norman Granz.

"Green Book," new movie about pianist Don Shirley
mjzee replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I saw Green Book tonight with my wife and some friends. We all enjoyed it. Heartwarming, tough-minded, great acting (Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali gave excellent performances), and in some ways a Christmas movie to boot. A good date movie. -
I think it’s the money that matters. I always start with the “Show Unread Content” page, so I never even see that donor stuff.

The article's premise is that workers will be in short supply, hence the desire to hire older workers. That's over and above the available younger workers. At the end of the article, it touches on older workers as "a potential part of the solution to the social system crisis," not that workers will be short on savings (although that might very well be true).

There's nothing wrong with work. One of my favorite anecdotes involved George Burns. After Gracie died, George decided to retire. He had enough money. So he played golf every day, and got exceedingly bored and anxious. He went back to work. He said, I realized it's not enough to do things you want to do; it's also important to do things you don't want to do.

So true.

Today, artwork loads just fine. I cannot tell you why.

The reality is, it takes money to run this place. All of us here love music, which means we pay for it in one way or another. Forego buying a CD or two, and put that money here instead. Jim A. doesn't give it a hard sell, but if you love this place, put some skin in the game.

I agree. I'm hoping my issue will be fixed in a future update.

Done. Thanks again for hosting this site, Jim.

Intriguing. I'm looking at a track now that lost its artwork, and its id3 tag is v2.3. Others are v2.2. (None are v1.1) You might be onto something with the idea that the upgrade lost some of the Album Artwork files. I still have an "Album Artwork" folder, but perhaps the upgrade erased some of its subfolders. But that doesn't explain why iTunes is not allowing me to add artwork to some of these albums. What could be preventing that from happening? Because it does allow artwork to be added to other albums. I'm going to look at the tag editor that Kevin mentioned above. BTW, thanks to y'all for helping me along with this mystery!
-
I chose a track, and tried converting the tags to 2.3 and then to 2.4; neither allowed artwork to be saved. I then converted the track into Apple Lossless, and it DID allow the artwork to be saved. So there's a clue. However, I do have a ton of albums in mp3 format where the artwork was never lost, so I'm still not sure what's going on.

Where would the settings for V1 and V2 tags be located? I've never heard of them before.

Here's another interesting wrinkle that may (or may not) be a clue. When I rip a CD to iTunes and then add the artwork (usually by dragging the artwork from Discogs or Amazon), a small box pops up labeled "Processing..." and underneath that a procession of the album's track names appears. For these albums that the upgrade lost the artwork, if I try to add artwork, one of two things happens. In some cases the artwork doesn't load (and literally nothing happens). For others, the "Processing..." box appears, but the procession of album track names does not appear. It ends with the artwork correctly being attached to the album in iTunes. Very strange.

Yes, RIP. A big chunk of my childhood is now gone. I loved Marvel in my tweens, and didn't understand why comic books didn't get the respect I thought they deserved. It took a few decades, but that respect eventually came. Business and money don’t breed warm feelings. While I can understand why Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, etc., may have felt cheated, well, that's business. In many respects, Stan was like Steve Jobs: it was ultimately his concept, and he got it done. Marvel was, IMHO, a helluva lot better than DC: in story lines, humanity, artwork, humor, and so much else. I was very fortunate to have been "into" Marvel in the late '60's, when their books were infused with the spirit of that time: the artwork and layouts were poppier, the writing more philosophical. Some of my favorites were Doctor Strange, Silver Surfer and The Watcher. All very strange characters, and ones you wouldn't expect in superhero comic books. Yes, it was a great time, brought to you by a kid from the outer boroughs of NYC. RIP.

One problem may be that my iMac is aging: it's powerful, but it's a late 2013 model. It's odd that others aren't reporting what I'm experiencing (based on a web search). I'm only hoping that Apple corrects whatever's going on in a future Mojave update. Still, I remind myself that not having album art on a small percentage of my albums isn't the end of the world.

Nope and nope. I have no WAV files, and I’ve looked - they’re not read-only.

At least that means Mosaic will be around until March 2019.

Soul Note/Black Saint extra tracks or alternate takes.
mjzee replied to JohnS's topic in Discography
Chuck once posted here that many of these sessions were artist-produced. In those cases, I'd think any outtakes/alternates would be in the possession of the artists.
