  1. Great space! Nice afternoon with wine and snacks from Charles Phan's new in-house cafe, "South" (a cajun-themed cafe). This was the SFJazz High School Allstars. Paula West sang a few tunes with them, too.
  2. Member's preview of new SFJazz Center this afternoon. Paula West will be performing. Next Sunday (last of the opening week shows) I'll be at Bobby Hutcherson's birthday celebration.
  3. Broadcast on NPR. Check your local listings ... SFJAZZ Center Opening Night: Live In Concert
  4. No more calls, please. We have a winner. Oh yes, I'd say so, especially since it includes that ninth song. Actually, that and the first one would make a nice single...er...double....er...single........ Actually, Greg, those are bands/artists, not songs - this is apparently an anthology. This old dude has actually heard of about one-third of them. El Vez bills himself as "The Mexican Elvis." Yes, it's a compilation album of artists on the "Sympathy for the Record Industry" label.
  5. ...and if he's a little rusty, how long would it take him to shake off that rust... But jeez, dude, if all this gets aligned right, you will be an underground hero for sure. The Man Who Rediscovered Marvin Cabell. And expect a little bump in sales as a result. Maybe not a HUGE bump, but Accent On The Blues was a "cult favorite" even back in the '70s, at least with people I knew. Some of that was because of the presence of Blood Ulmer, but there were those, myself included, who found Marvin Cabell's contributions...spellbinding. You might think I'm kidding, but I'm not. Wow - this could be BIG! ... in an 'underground/cult way,' of course.
  6. You get the music instantly while you are waiting for your CD to ship. Also you don't have to rip the CD and can play it on your Cloud player anytime.
  7. Tolliver at Slug's Ella in Berlin/Hollywood Miles at the Blackhawk Trane at the VV Cannonball at the Jazz Workshop Dexter at the VV (his 'return' in the 70s) Coryell at the Village Gate Lee Morgan at the Lighthouse I could go on ...
  8. Yes, the Collective is doing Chick Corea this year. I'm sure there will be an album - there always is.
  9. Now less than 2 weeks away. I think It's going to be a big deal!
  10. In 2 weeks he's going to be an integral part of the SFJazz Center's opening week. Check it out: Grand Opening Week 1
  11. Great idea, Jim. So much good stuff to choose from, I'm sure you'll make the right decisions.
  12. You can just copy and paste now. Don't even need to insert a link. NICE!
  13. Nope.
  14. Tony, that link's not working. any good now. Bought in Feb this year, i wouldn't lose too much if i decided to trade. All I get with that link is a generic album of "featured photos".
  15. Tony, that link's not working.
  16. They don't say the honors are limited to American artists, only those who have contributed to American culture.
  17. No worries - I did, too. Thought they weren't coming to SF until September.
  18. I didn't see the whole thing, but I liked the Buddy Guy segment, too. Actually, I thought Bonnie Raitt blew Hart and Beck away. She had more class than Hart and more chops (that night, at least) than Beck. Sadly I've found Jeff Beck to be pretty sleepy in recent years.
  19. 12 Angry Men - RIP
  20. Ed Cassidy, Drummer for Jazz-Rock Band Spirit, Dies at 89
