  1. I don't see Vol 1 on eMusic, Jon, but I'm sure 2 & 3 will enough for a WHILE!
  2. My friend DL'd the 3rd one from eMusic. He's always talking about it.

    Alvin Lee, RIP

Although I hadn't listened to him in years, it still came as a surprise. Sadly, his demise was similar to how Tony Williams died. Like they say, 'there's no such thing as a "routine" surgery'
  4. Some rock stuff at Amoeba yesterday
  5. eMusic Change The Beat - The Celluloid Records Story 1979 - 1987 32 tracks/162 minutes - $5.99
  6. Excellent - nice shot, too! I'm seeing him in Austin in about a week and a half.
  7. Just heard about THIS previously unknown recording. New Recording Surfaces of Jimi Hendrix Gig in London
  8. Interesting little chat/demo video with Nels Cline. Nels Cline Plays His 1959 Jazzmaster
  9. It could be debated about the horns and guest vocalist material, but the other stuff is unquestionably eye-opening IMO. It's amazing to realize that there's still so much quality music that remains commercially unreleased. And it's not just marginally different alt takes of the same old tunes.
  10. Whole album available for streaming on NPR. First Listen: Jimi Hendrix, 'People, Hell And Angels'
  11. HB NOOJJJJJdJJJJJJJiJJJJJJJJJJJJcJJJJJJJJJJkJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [stolen from last year's b-day post...........sor-reeeeeeeeee!]
  12. Esperanza got an hour on Austin City Limits tonight. I watched most of it. She had her "big band" with her that had a more varied mix of races and genders than you usually see in this context. I was having trouble "getting" the tunes, though. They seemed sort of formless to me, and jumped around quite a bit from funk to big band to even some outside playing. That, in addition to her rather thin voice made it hard for me to latch on to anything. But maybe I'm missing something. She certainly seems to be on a fast track in the music biz.
  13. The set arrived today. A little nicer packaging than Vol 1. Haven't listened through it yet, though.
  14. Just saw him with Dave Holland recently. While he wasn't featured much, he was definitely impressive.
  15. Ha! Yeah.......exactly.
  16. Well, that should be a lively discussion. Saw a similar panel there in 2010 (Miles Davis-Bitches Brew 40th Anniversary Tribute) with Kahn and Wilburn, but also Erin Davis, Steve Berkowitz, and Lenny White.
  17. Miles Davis Quintet: Live in Europe 1969—The Bootleg Series, Vol. 2 Daedalus Books $29.95 (+shipping)
  18. I have nothing to add - but good topic, Chuck!
  19. Two things: 1) Amazon has it for $35.30 right now [update: Daedalus Music for $29.95] 2) There's a panel discussion about this at SXSW next month: Miles Davis Bootleg 2: The Lost Quintet MODERATOR: Ashley Kahn, Author/Producer Nell Mulderry,Owner, Boss Sounds Meghan Stabile, Revive Music Group Imani, Artist, The Pharcyde Vincent Wilburn Jr., CEO, Nefdrum Productions Bootie Brown, Artist, The Pharcyde

  22. Haven't heard this 'complete' set but I'm sure it's great. Not sure of it's availability, though. Ella and Duke Cote D'Azur Concerts On Verve, 8 disks.
  23. Finally got around to watching the LZ segment. I thought ALL the performances were well done. Some interesting moments: Grohl drumming, and the drummer singing Kid Rock, for being there. I never paid any attention to him before. Tasty arrangement, too. Lenny and his band for doing (and not over-doing) his 60s thing The whole Stairway bit, and Plant getting 'emotional' Bonnie jumping out of her seat for the last 2 numbers Letterman 'hanging' with Page Yo Yo Ma grooving to Stairway
