  1. Top 10 'Whatevers' - fuggetaboutit!
  2. My lord -- Billy Harper blowing on "Free For All"?? Hot damn!!! Yeah, my thoughts exactly....... People liked The Core so much that we thought we had to do some sort of follow up to that and this was the most logical tune so......... I like the way you think, David! Can't wait to hear the new album and seeing you guys at Yoshi's.
  3. Great stuff! Posted by Noj on FB tonight.
  4. My lord -- Billy Harper blowing on "Free For All"?? Hot damn!!! My thoughts exactly, Rooster!
  5. I like the first ELO album, which really WAS the Move, incl Roy Wood.
  6. Domestic or import label? Domestic this time...Motema Records Release date June 12. I believe it is a gig for the Hartford Jazz Society or something to that effect. This is the venue info they gave me Polish National Home, 60 Charter Oak Ave. Hartford, CT. 06103 Hope you can make it..... And tracklisting? Can't wait!! Believe, For it is True (Billy Harper) Temptation(s) (Cecil McBee) Ebony Moonbeams (George Cables) Free For All (Wayne Shorter) Quest (Billy Harper) But He Knows (George Cables) Tight Squeeze (Cecil McBee) Naaj (Billy Hart) All have been recorded before in one form or another except for Temptation(s). Tight Squeeze is from a Cecil McBee CD called Unspoken which came out on Palmetto maybe 10 years ago or so and kind of flew under the radar I guess. It's a great record. You know I'm always happy to answers questions here and I appreciate the interest but I also want to mention that there is a Cookers Facebook page and you can see the CD cover there and some new pictures from the photo shoot for the CD. http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Cookers/102077619858672 Free for All?? Seriously? Wow, THAT'S intense ...
  7. Looking forward to the new album, David!
  8. Local Hero was on KQED tonight. I never get tired of watching it.
  9. That's OK, Shawn. I was planning on seeing him last night at the Fillmore, alas ...
  10. Had some fraud-based problems in recent years with lawsuits from Kinkaide gallery owners.
  11. Not exactly comparable, but you can get these MP3s on Amazon for: Crowd Scene by Mal Waldron Quintet $1.78 The Seagulls Of Kristiansund by Mal Waldron Quintet $2.67 The Git Go-live At The Village Vanguard by Mal Waldron Quintet $1.78 Where Are You? by Mal Waldron Quintet $3.56
  12. There's "Alfie" and there's "Alfie's Theme". The Bacharach tune I could do without. Sonny's version rocks, though. Also don't care for: Somewhere Over the Rainbow Willow Weep for Me
  13. Coming to Yoshi's Oakland, June 20-21. Already got my tix. Billy Harper (Tenor Sax) Eddie Henderson (Trumpet) David Weiss (Trumpet) Craig Handy (Alto Sax) George Cables (Piano) Cecil McBee (Bass) Billy Hart (Drums)
  14. Austin - 3/15/12
  15. Not a huge fan myself, but was happy to be able to see him up close in a relatively small venue. He doesn't bother me, but I don't get the intense adoration, either.
  16. He's touring with a 17-piece band now. Maybe that plays into the "over-production" of the album. I saw him in Austin, and it was such a rousing show that the songs almost didn't matter. Not being familiar with most of the new tunes, I preferred the old stuff, though. Will have to get the new album and give it some time, for sure.
  17. BARGAIN!
  18. Seems like it ALWAYS goes for a premium price on ebay: $300-$400, I think.
  19. I've been with T. Rowe Price for many years and have been very happy with their service - both mutual funds and brokerage. I find the TRP funds to be very reliable and are usually rated favorably on Morningstar.
  20. Bruce: SXSW, Austin City Limits/Moody Theatre, Austin - March 15
  21. Just back from SXSW in Austin and was VERY fortunate to have been able to see Bruce up close in the 2,700 seat Austin City Limits/Moody Theatre. Once in a lifetime opportunity, for sure. Not to mention cameo appearances by Tom Morello, Jimmy Cliff and Eric Burdon.
  22. Just my $.02, but I think "Signify" is a good starting point - it was for me anyway. Seems to represent both their past and future sounds pretty well. The 2-disk "Special Edition" has lots of hidden gems in it, as well.
  23. I saw this group last week and really enjoyed it overall. Dave Holland's bass was not easily heard though. I turned his amp up after the first song but it was never really loud enough when everyone was playing and that was a real shame as I love the tone he gets from his bass. Also he was playing a new instrument I'd never seen before. The lower half of the body of the bass was a little truncated so it looked a littl odd. I don't know if the newness of the instrument had anything to do with the volume level. I kept waiting for the soundman to do something about it and I wanted to yell out that I couldn't hear him very well. I was ten rows from the stage and dead center so it shouldn't have been an issue. The only other quibble is the lack of solos from Jason Moran. Potter was the dominant soloist that night and though he's a fine player I find his solos a little predictable and Moran's voice would have been a welcome relief. Jason also played the Fender Rhodes which added a nice color to the program. They played compositions by everyonen in the band including Eric Harland. Eric's drumming was nothing short of fantastic and perfect at every moment. Just a real superb musician at the top of his game. Completely agree with this review. It was an unusual looking bass - although the sound was mixed OK at my show. I liked Jason's Rhodes playing, too. Nice touch.
  24. Thanks for the update, Chuck.
