  1. Saw him 30 years ago leading a band at the late Village club "Lush Life" with: Kenny Barron, Carter Jefferson, Kenny Rogers, Terumasu Hino, Alex Lane Wish I could say I remembered much about it, though.
  2. That IS a great deal! I think I paid $70-80, which seemed cheap at the time.
  3. As Valerie said, I think it's "only" emphysema. When the SFJazz Center opens in January, one night of the opening week will be Spotlight: Bobby Hutcherson Birthday Celebration I have tickets already. Should be an amazing night.
  4. Well, yes..........there's THAT!
  5. Got tix at half price to see Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings at the Davies Symphony Hall on the 24th. I've seen them once before - should be a great show.
  6. Another thumbs up for the "About Time" album. The best solo album from him in a long time. I've found many of this solo albums sort of "routine," unfortunately, but he's still a major talent, for sure. His recent work with Clapton at both the Crossroads Festival and the joint tour/album they did was also a high point for both of them in recent years.
  7. Those are a couple of NICE-looking axes, Lon!
  8. I'm back and now INTIMATELY acquainted with this piece. FWIW, Bill is a great guy - smart, talented, and funny. A very enjoyable weekend to say the least. Saturday night was an Electric Hot Tuna concert, in which he was included, and he did the best version I've ever heard of "The TImes They Are A-Changin' " A class act, for sure.

    Cecil McBee

    I-did-not-know-that.
  10. I hope everyone that wanted it, got it.
  11. Never made it to Tamarindo. Bummed. But the Series went 3 1/2 hours and by the time I got there it would have been nearly over.
  12. Definitely great technology, but typical of Fox, WAY over-used.
  13. Thanks for the support, guys! Kirchen is doing a couple of dates here in the Bay Area this weekend, but unfortunately I can't make it. Will report back afterwards "if" I learn anything. Don't think I'll be able to pull off that Hot Rod Lincoln medley, though.
  14. Warrants repeated listens ... for SURE!
  15. In 2 weeks I'll be in Pomeroy, OH at Jorma's Fur Peace guitar camp taking a workshop with the king of the Tele, Bill Kirchen. Never done anything like this before, but it should be a great experience. I just hope I don't embarrass myself too much.
  16. The Tamarindo trio was excellent. It was very free-flowing and all three members were on the money. They appeared to be totally keyed into one another, as if they'd been playing together for years. I've only seen Malaby once before, with Ralph Alessi. That was a fine group -- and I really dig Alessi -- but in this trio Malaby played with much more freedom and power. I was particularly impressed with his soprano work. (IMO most sax players who double on soprano sound much better on their primary ax.) How long did they play? That might determine whether I'm going to be able to get to the show or not. Sounds great, though - I'm a little more incentivized now.
  17. I have tix for Tamarindo here in SF on Saturday. I hope to go, but will be late if I do because of the Series - bad timing! Go Giants!
  18. You think Tony was a Giants fan?
  19. Only slightly off topic.
  20. OK...........it gets better, later. Especially "Out of the Ghetto".
  21. About the recording quality, here's what the eMusic review says: and
  22. Spotify-ing it now. So far it sounds like generic SD. What am I missing?
  23. What everyone else said. That Tolliver set is a MUST MUST MUST have!
