  1. Hope you're having a GREAT one, Lon!
  2. That's a pretty amazing lineup. FREE just seems insane!
  3. Not there, but I may see those guys when they come to Yoshi's next month.
  4. Yeah, I've been Googling the forums and been having trouble finding anyone who DOESN'T think it's great. [something's wrong here ]
  5. Good point on the trem, Lon. I should test drive a Jazzmaster at GC. I doubt they have this one, but it's close enough to a standard model that I could get a good feel for it.
  6. Agreed, Lon. The earlier Mascis was sort of a metal-flake purple, I think - not my style, either. Also an "actual" Fender and more expensive. This would also be an easy way for me to get a guitar w/trem, which I'm lacking in my "collection".
  7. I'm not the biggest Willie fan, but it seemed like a good way to get a lot of stuff at once. The review mentioned that the live cuts are some of his best, so it's worth it for that alone. Not like it's gonna break the bank, anyway. Cheaper than a capuccino at Peet's.
  8. Works for me. Anything is better than the old interface.
  9. Anyone heard about or played the Squire J Mascis Jazzmaster? I can't find any bad reviews or board comments about it. Sweetwater is selling it for $379 - seems like a steal, from everything I'm reading.
  10. Willie Nelson "The Complete Atlantic Sessions" - $2.99! 61 tracks, over 3.5 hours!
  11. Without him, DP would not have been NEARLY as interesting.
  12. Looks like a must-have! Haven't ordered a Mosaic in quite a while, actually.
  13. I picked up Neil Young "Americana", which included a video of each tune.
  14. Thanks for the input, David. And greater thanks for putting this ensemble together. I would see this group ANYtime, ANYwhere (within reason, of course). I've seen Billy countless times over the years - he's one of my jazz heroes. And the rest of the band are all legends in their own right, as well. What's NOT to like????
  15. Happy b-day, Baraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaak!
  16. They're pretty good, BF. My friend was playing the album yesterday while we BBQ'd and watched fireworks at The Rose Bowl. The lady singer has a very soulful voice. The instrumentals are sweet without being sickly. Sincere, good quality music. The downside is it all sounds a little same-y, from track to track. I imagine they're fun live. She has a good voice and presence, but when we saw them the band seemed somewhat uninspired. Same-y would be a good description. Actually, here's the show! Maybe I should watch it again. http://www.npr.org/event/music/148530119/alabama-shakes-live-in-concert-sxsw-2012
  17. Let me know what you think of Alabama Shakes. My friends and I saw them at SXSW and weren't impressed - but we seem to be in the minority. This group gets raves wherever they play.
  18. "Arcane" is putting it mildly. I got one, though! Thanks, GA.
  19. Good one, Uli. You might be onto something there. Any other singers doing this from a vocal perspective?
  20. I picked up the Black Keys @ $.99, too.
  21. Finally getting around to listening to this. I can't think of ANYone who is doing (or could do) music remotely like this. A unique mixture of hip vocal performances over a backdrop of 60s/70s-era progressive/outside jazz. Gotta be one of the most outrageous albums of the year and could be appreciated by pretty much anyone on this board. One thing's for sure - it's NOT commercial.
  22. This conversation is just a LITTLE off topic.
  23. It's summer in San Francisco - 64 degrees and foggy. Perfect!
  24. I saw him playing acoustic stand-up bass with the Mike Gibbs band once. Well...........there ya go. My point exactly!
