  1. 60s here in SF, too. Been like this most of the "winter" (if you could call it that).
  2. He's on the schedule to play at SXSW in Austin next month. I hope to catch him there.
  3. I think that's what happened to Yoshi's. They went WAY over the top when they expanded into SF - could have toned it down quite a bit. They've re-tooled their programming and have as much (if not more) non-jazz artists as jazz these days. Part of that is the economy, I'm sure.
  4. Thanks for that. I may order the Lester Bowie set. Would have also ordered Henry Threadgill, but it's out of stock. [update] Bowie Out of Stock now, too. Will keep checking back ...
  5. He had a nice (but small) part in The Big Lebowski, too! My realtor in Santa Barbara knew him - they used to play tennis together.
  6. They're going to be at Yoshi's at the end of the month. Thought I might check them out.
  7. You can hear yourself breathe and even hear noises when you touch the wire. These aren't noise cancelling, but they have a bit of the same effect. When I'm on the street I like to be able to hear what's going on around me somewhat.
  8. Very cool! I was at the old Jazz Bakery a long time ago - saw Mose Allison. Not much to speak of.
  9. Been listening to this lately. Quite an intense album - especially for Getz. w/Beirach, Holland and DeJohnette.
  10. Dexter, definitely. Also: Billy Harper Clifford Jordan (anything by the Magic Triangle)
  11. Thinksound TS-02 for in-ear listening......although I don't use them much because I find that walking with them is a weird physical experience. For day-to-day commuting use, I prefer my Sennheiser open-ear PMX-60's.
  12. The stamp:
  13. Just listened to JJ tonight - GREAT stuff. Get it before it goes OOP.
  14. Don Cheadle's Miles Davis movie will be a 'gangster' film
  15. A very nice collection from Keepnews.
  16. Just announced: Steven Wilson The Fillmore San Francisco, CA Fri, Apr 6, 2012 08:00 PM
  17. THAT sounds intense!
  18. Nice appreciation by Joel Selvin in today's SF Chron. Johnny Otis - rhythm and blues renaissance man
  19. Also saw George a few times: in '79 at the Keystone Korner w/Hilton, Eddie Moore, Herbie Lewis. Again in '81 at the KK with the same band except Higgins instead of Moore. '87 at Bradley's with Hilton and Ray Drummond.
  20. For a little insight into the workings of the NCAA, read Joe Nocera's recent series of Editorials in the NY Times.
  21. Curtis Amy's Select, disks 2 & 3.
  22. Somewhat reminiscent of Ken Lay's departure.
  23. Steven discusses his PRS guitar(s)
  24. Things are actually looking UP! Don't know if anyone noticed, but Bobby recently performed in NYC and will be at Yoshi's this coming weekend. This lengthy article in today's SF Chron was great to see. Bobby Hutcherson passionate about music, life
