  1. I liked their first few albums. Especially Crocodiles! This live album is very good, too.
  2. Saw Cassandra and Jason together a few years ago at SFJAZZ. She talked about hiring him many years ago when he was just coming on the scene.
  3. They keep adding more shows (and now a film series!), so I'm not surprised it's taking some time to get the schedule out.
  4. From an email today: The Dream Syndicate “The Regulator,” is the first single+video from our brand new double album “The Universe Inside.” Kick back (mind enhancers optional) with this 20 minute psychedelic, somnambulistic journey through New York City. https://thedreamsyndicate.ffm.to/theuniverseinside?fbclid=IwAR1AEOF4Ih4Fvh_DMJkpVAD2MnZGGPHsrXGzlYZ4jaFBK6GLP-lNMU_q1DQ
  5. Going to try to get here tonight. The Cookers are on the West Coast and have an off night, so this is happening: Jazz legends David Weiss & Billy Harper WEISS/HARPER 5tet Billy Harper – tenor sax David Weiss – trumpet Matt Clark – piano Lorca Hart – drums John Wiitala – bass
  6. On an ominous note, I saw this about the big South by Southwest festival in mid-March. I hope it doesn't spread to Big Ears. SXSW Seeing “Handful Of Cancellations” Amid Coronavirus Threat, But Festival “Proceeding As Planned” For Now
  7. RIP David. I always appreciated the Paisley Underground movement, especially the Dream Syndicate. I like the Opal album a lot and the first couple of Mazzy Star albums. Roback definitely had a vision for his music. Coincidentally I just saw the DS with Rain Parade as the opening act about 2 weeks ago. Syndicate was great ... Rain, not so much. Seemed like they were way out of practice and probably haven't played together much in recent years. Whereas Steve Wynn reformed his band a few years ago and they are about to release their 3rd album of new music in as many years. So ... VERY active!
  8. Agreed. It was better than I expected. Really enjoyed the extensive commentary by Francis. Really opened up some understanding about what a complicated person he was (especially when fueled by drugs and alcohol).
  9. Great album, and this re-master is even nicer Nice seeing Nile jamming at Clapton's Ginger Baker Memorial Concert
  10. Barrence is a wild man! Haven't heard him in years, but for $7 on Amazon, I ordered this.
  11. That was a great selling point for all their stores!
  12. I remember going there in the late 80's as the LP era was fading out in favor of CDs. The vinyl inventory kept getting smaller and smaller.
  13. I forgot about that store. I think it was on Second St - probably around Bryant.
  14. Hoping to catch them at Big Ears next month.
  15. Spent many hours at the Tower in SF, near Fisherman's Wharf. Seemed like the center of the universe at the time. Growing up in Santa Barbara, I would usually stop at the Sunset Blvd Tower in LA when I had the chance. And living in NYC in the 80s I went to both the Lincoln Center Tower and the one on Lower Broadway. I bought too many records there to remember any specific albums, though.
  16. Nice mix of soul, folk and pop.
  17. This is killing!

    The Cookers

Anybody can have an off night (if that's what it was). When in doubt ... just watch Billy Hart. He NEVER disappoints!
  19. How did I miss out on Garlos Garnett's albums? This one's fantastic!
  20. "Finale," indeed! They still had it, in what would be their last tour. RIP Jansch and Renbourn.
  21. Classic! I saw them in Oakland last week. Great show!
  22. I'll see anything with Tim Berne!
