  1. Yeah - he's an interesting character. Changed directions several times.
  2. This week: SFJAZZ Fridays at Five, Wayne Shorter Celebration Part 4 (from the shows at the venue early last year when he had to cancel his dates) w/ Joshua Redman, Ambrose Akinmusire, Danilo Pérez, John Patitucci, & Brian Blade
  3. Watched the Immanuel Wilkins Quartet w/Orrin Evans (piano), Daryl Johns (bass), Kweku Sumbry (drums) from the Jazz Gallery this past weekend. Very good! Nice production and audio quality, too.
  4. This 1999 solo album was better than I expected. Worth a listen!

    This one smokes, for SURE!
  6. Thanks, Chuck. My bad! And thanks for clearing up the mystery of the Divine Love set. I guess I didn't see the Monk program.
  7. Even though he walked off before finishing?
  8. I missed it because I wanted to watch the convention, but it's already archived. So, not the worst option. 2020 NEA Jazz Masters Tribute Concert Webcast Archive
  9. I saw the Dream Syndicate and Rain Parade in mid-February. It was last live show I saw.
  10. Thanks - I'll check it out. I see that there are 3 Volumes. Looks like they're loosely chronological: Vol 1 - the 60s, Vol 2 - the 70s, Vol 3 the 80's.
  11. How is that? Sweet can be really inconsistent, and I haven't heard Susanna outside of the Bangles.
  12. More sad about the Selects going away. It was a nice lower cost addition to the big boxes.
  13. I listened to a nice podcast with Roscoe from the National Endowment for the Arts ahead of the 2020 NEA Jazz Master Awards (which were delayed until Aug 20, virtually) Saxophonist, composer and 2020 NEA Jazz Master
  14. Glad to have sparked some conversation about the long, lost Muse catalog. I wonder if it will EVER get a reissue treatment? I got the Woody Mosaic box, of course and there are some Mark Murphy compilations released on Savoy (streaming, anyway. don't know about CDs). I'd really like to get hold of some of the Earland stuff. I still have a few on vinyl, but don't have a turntable setup anymore. Another solid one was Roy Brooks "The Free Slave" which I found several years ago on 32Jazz. Killer lineup with Woody Shaw, George Coleman, Hugh Lawson and Cecil McBee, includes the great tune "Will Pan's Walk" (a/k/a Wilpan's Walk). If Mosaic was in better financial shape, I would try to convince them to release other Muse sets. But at this point I doubt they would be interested.
