I actually still have this: Unfinished Music No.2: Life with the Lions "The album closes with "Radio Play"; thirteen minutes of a radio dial flipped back and forth with brief moments of John Lennon making a telephone call in the background."

Here's a photo of mine from 1977:

Thanks, Big Al! Personal notes: I once sat a couple of tables away from Ronstadt (she was with Pete Hamill) at Fat Tuesday, listening to Betty Carter. Lou Gramm, from Foreigner ( yes, the worse bullethead music of all time), has a house a couple/three miles from me on Lake Ontario. Other than that, like Jim said, it is what it is.

The one next to the stage is still there, if that's what you mean:

have any of you heard of this bill?

Chewy, you might want to open a JAZZMOBILE thread for those with fond memories ansd about current concerts. Briefly the Jazzmobile takes the music to the streets (on a old beer float) in the NYC area, but they used to go on a short tour of Upstate and Western New York cities in August. When it rained, they found a place inside: -
IIRC, that's Jug on "Jump Monk". That's the track to download. Ms. Fong's suggestion of the Mingus & Orchestra is right on the money. When I first saw this thread, "Mingus Moves" came to mind also because there is some gold in those hills. My best example might be Mingus at the Bohemia. David, you might want to open a free Flickr account. You can easily upload them there and they will be automatically resized and stored in various sizes for uploading for other uses including your own website or blog. You can see my Flickr page here: Marcello's Flickr page -
I just bought this book: You may find it useful. I always liked this on on ESP: BUD POWELL - Blue Note Cafe Paris 1961 ESP Disk

"In 2003 Spanky, with co-producers Bobby & Leslie Sahlen, put together a Limited Edition CD compilation of unreleased live and demo goodies from several groups Spanky has shared the stage with since the early 1960s. There are three awesome cuts from the "Change" album era, a couple from The New Wine Singers, and a 5 song set with Little Brother Montgomery at Chicago's legendary Mother Blue's nightclub. Also included is a 1999 recording of "I Love How You Love Me" with friend and accompanist of 40+ years, Guy Guilbert. Spanky and Our Gang, (original and latest "Gangers") can be seen on the PBS American Soundtrack Series "This Land Is Our Land: The Folk Rock Years 2" premiering nationally December 2003."

Sun Ra's "Love in Outer Space" -- lyrics?? -- Can't
marcello replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Discography
This may help you: David Henderson was a founder of the Black Arts Movement in the 1960s. In 1971 he recorded with the avant-garde saxophonist Ornette Coleman. Henderson wrote the lyrics to composer and pianist Sun Ra's "Love in Outer Space" and recorded with Sun Ra as well with saxophonist David Murray and "Butch" Morris. -
What live music are you going to see tonight?
marcello replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Just came back from hearing Tain (w/ David Budway, Marcus Strickland and Chris Smith). He was, as his usual, high enerygy, funny playing interesting compositions. Afterwards at the hotel bar, we (mostly Tain) had a interesting encounter with a outrageous drunk ( Hey, brother man!). It was funny for a while because he just zeroed in on Tain who was minding his own business. I had to get security. -
A belated Happy Birthday, Brownie!

I used to have this on LP. Maybe I still do. I'll give a look, but I think I got rid of it. IIRC, it's one of those dates that looks better than it sounds. Nope. It's long gone.

What do you think of the "I came across..." thread

Sure! Keep the vaults open. I wish I had a scanner... -
That's a relief, Chris. Not the senile part, the permission part.

Sorry David. My bad manners.

I corrected the venue for the Blakey. Blakey is not Blakey without Bu! I've seen a couple of these Davis Weiss tribute shows at Iridium ( like I said, it's not my favorite venue) like the Wayne Shorter. Not inspiring, or to my taste.

Boy, there's some slim pickings! Dizzy's is very nice for the atmosphere and view, and some really safe music. The steaks are very good at the Knickerbocker ( and some good music to), but it can be noisy. I like the band that Johnathan Kriesberg has at Smalls. He's got Henry Hey with him too. I don't like Iridium at all, and I think this kind of tribute band is, let's say, not for me. Be brave, go see Cecil! I think we're on last.fm too. I don't know how much either pays per play. It ain't much. The long answer is very, very, little. Pennies, in fact, but that may change for the better in the long term future. They will show up on your royalty statement.
