I've blown through the 9-CD set nearly twice and it's still not getting old. This is a keeper for sure! I'm embarrassed to say, I never expected it to be this good! :blush2: Quote

mellowT Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 Jazz Crusaders - Pacific Jazz Quintet Studio Sessions, disc 1 This was the first black box Mosaic I purchased. I don't break it out that often. Today seemed to be a good day for it. Quote
king ubu Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 Enjoying the thought that I'll soon get The Complete Master Jazz Piano Series (to add to my pile of as yet unhread music ) Quote
Dave James Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 The newly released Ahmad Jamal. Great stuff. Marc Myers at jazzwax.com had the perfect description of his sound. "He plays piano like someone just dumped a sack of mice on the keyboard." Perfect. Quote
tranemonk Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 Not too happy with Stan Kenton Capitol Sessions (Disc 6) <_< After reading Straight Life I was intrigued by Art Pepper's days with Kenton... then... I found an opened copy of this OOP on amazon for a decent price... Liked the Anita and Christy stuff early in the set (Discs 1 - 3 or so)... but by Disc 5.... :( Quote

king ubu Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 Blue Mitchell good stuff! played all his Riversides first, and now the Mosaic set... not sure if I still like the Riversides better - sure, there are some great bands there, and Wynton Kelly is perfect, but Mitchell sounds so poised yet lyrical on the Blue Notes, so self-assured - a pure joy to hear! Quote
king ubu Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 The Hank Mobley - playing the three sessions with the Jazz Messengers rhythm section - mighty fine stuff! Quote

ghost of miles Posted September 20, 2010 Report Posted September 20, 2010 The Thad Jones Blue Note/United Artists/Roulette. Been a long time since I had this one out, but lots of great writing by Thad and lots of Billy Mitchell, not to mention Barry Harris and Tommy Flanagan. Quote
blind-blake Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 Hank Mobley. What a tremendous set. Quote

I love those sessions. Blue is a player that connected with me almost immediately, subtle, yet still an ass kicker when the situation warrants. Quote
mellowT Posted September 26, 2010 Report Posted September 26, 2010 Reconciling my bills and listening to Stuff Smith. Kinda takes the edge off the pain. Quote
