sidewinder Posted October 21, 2022 Report Posted October 21, 2022 CD1, kicking off with Art Hodes on a wet Friday. Set #049, one of the lowest In my collection. Quote
Justin V Posted October 21, 2022 Report Posted October 21, 2022 Disc 3: I think that this set deserves more recognition. Someone is selling it without the box and book for $45 on eBay. I paid $100 for it years ago and don't regret it. 🙂 Quote
Jim Duckworth Posted October 24, 2022 Report Posted October 24, 2022 Having not listened to this material in quite some time, I really enjoyed discs 2-4. Quote

Brad Posted November 7, 2022 Report Posted November 7, 2022 Re-visiting the LD Mosaic. It’s been a few years since I listened to it. Quote

JSngry Posted November 7, 2022 Report Posted November 7, 2022 Finished Basie Studio Roulette, started Charles Brown Aladdin. Decided to spend the money while I had it and get the remaining Mosaic sets that I KNOW I wanted to have before retirement. Very glad that I got both. On the fence about picking up the Sarah Vaughan Roulette set, I love her, but she made a buttload full of records (not all of them equally compelling) and this set seems to be less that fully essential, thoughts? Actually heard the album with Basie on Spotify and was, uh...underwhelmed. Were they actually in the same room at the same time? Quote
sidewinder Posted November 7, 2022 Report Posted November 7, 2022 I have the Sarah Vaughan Roulette and enjoy it. Not essential but very happy to have it. Sonics are very good. Quote
jazzbo Posted November 7, 2022 Report Posted November 7, 2022 The small group sessions with Sarah on Roulette are very nice. Quote

sidewinder Posted November 21, 2022 Report Posted November 21, 2022 (edited) 2CD version. Sonically, more than acceptable. In the process of dusting it and its colleagues, now have a sneezing fit though ! Edited November 21, 2022 by sidewinder Quote
Stompin at the Savoy Posted November 26, 2022 Report Posted November 26, 2022 (edited) Listening to this as I await the arrival of the recent The Complete Louis Armstrong Columbia & RCA Victor Studio Sessions 1946-66. Edited November 27, 2022 by Stompin at the Savoy Quote
Jim Duckworth Posted December 1, 2022 Report Posted December 1, 2022 I've had this set since it came out and have utterly failed to enjoy it over the years. A bit of judicious editing (the vocals and Satin Doll-which I cannot seem to like) and it's pretty listenable. I've played this one so infrequently the top is still 100% affixed to the rest of the box-a rarity for Mosaics of this vintage in my collection. Quote
Stompin at the Savoy Posted December 5, 2022 Report Posted December 5, 2022 I've been listening a lot to the Shorty Rogers set which I recently obtained. But today I was thinking about this, which I bought new when it came out. I come back to it periodically and it grows on you. Tram, Bix, and Lang and Tea, oh yeah. Quote
sidewinder Posted December 8, 2022 Report Posted December 8, 2022 CD5 - what an excellent set this is. Quote
Bluesnik Posted December 16, 2022 Report Posted December 16, 2022 (edited) Today I will be listening to The Gerald Wilson Mosaic. In a little while. Celebrating I read about him in Jazz in Detroit. So he's a Detroiter (?). Edited December 16, 2022 by Bluesnik Quote

mjzee Posted December 21, 2022 Report Posted December 21, 2022 Disc 1. Sound quality is very nice and smooth. Intriguing note: Mosaic says the front cover photo is "With the J.J. Johnson Quintet at The Village Vanguard, NYC, July 1960." Was this recorded? Why was Francis Wolff photographing it? Quote
jazzbo Posted December 21, 2022 Report Posted December 21, 2022 (edited) I doubt that they could record that Quintet as it was signed to Columbia, probably exclusively. Maybe they were just out to hear the group, and Francis probably took his camera around with him. This was not long after "Open Sesame" was recorded. Edited December 21, 2022 by jazzbo Quote
