paul secor
Query: How many times can we sell the same stuff? Answer: As many times as the suckers will buy it. It's cheaper and easier to market than newly recorded music is.

Claude
This looks like a clueless marketing section, since the albums have already been reissued "restored and remastered and in digipak packaging", and those reissues are still available. What is there to make these reissues more interesting? The logical risk-free step would have been to start an "Impulse! RVG" series remastered by Rudy. Matthew
Good, when people unload their old 20-bit copies that I don't have, I'll pick them up cheap. To my ears, they sound great.
clifford_thornton
Fuck Universal/Verve/Impulse. More wasteful than RVG'ing a Conn of three years ago.

clifford_thornton
A friend of mine - so he says - was going through a collection coming into the record store. In the gatefold to a Yusef Lateef Impulse LP were a few buds, apparently still smokeable...
felser
Out today, five CD set listing for $49.98. I can't find a track listing on any of my usual sites. Anyone know what's on this one? And what the plans are on vol.2, etc.?

It's Easy To Remember 8. Nancy (With The Laughing Face) So that's the originally issued albums "Africa/Brass", "Live at the Village Vanguard", "Coltrane", "Duke Ellington and John Coltrane" and "Ballads". Beats me why this needs to be reissued as these are still easily available with substantial extra material added.

Aggie87
... from MusicTap: "Verve Records will continue their collection of John Coltrane music with The Impulse! Albums: Volume Two. This will release on April 8." Don't know what's in this batch yet, but these still seem underwhelming to me - given the lack of any bonus material that is readily available on the previous issues. AndrewHill
Are there any pics of what the actual packaging looks like? I mean, are the new cd sleeves any different from the old digipacks?
jazzbo
yes, they have a border on the left, just a 3/8" or so, and are actually in my opinion glossier and a better cover image. Inside they have the center gatefold images.
