Matthew Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 Mosaic owns outright the Benedetti Parker Tapes, so I think you can safely assume there will be another run. Quote
bertrand Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 I don't see the same info. I want to get the Hutcherson, and they are saying not until 2010. This is looking very bad for them - they are losing tons of business. Bertrand. Quote
mikeweil Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 If the H.R.S. box is still available in two weeks, I will order a copy ... Quote

I do not know a thing about running a record company, and maybe Chuck would know the answer to this, but would not Mosaic have insurance to cover all the lost tapes and the lost business? Quote
Guest Bixieland Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 If the H.R.S. box is still available in two weeks, I will order a copy ... I think that would be wise. This is looking very bad for them - they are losing tons of business. I don't know, Bertrand. As long as they recoup any loss -- the time/effort/materials put in, etc. By itself, moving inventory, isn't a bad thong. I would think. Quote
BruceH Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 Poor Duke Pearson, he doesn't get any respect. . . . (I really like his Select). I, for one, love Duke Pearson. Quote
Bright Moments Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 per lloyd (at mosaic) today - the braxton and the django are in stock. i added these as i snagged the new artie shaw! Quote
mikeweil Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 (edited) Now that I have the Gerald Wilson, Carmell Jones, and Curtis Amy Mosaics and the Lou Blackburn Imperial on a Blue Note CD reissue all together, I realize what a great job Cuscuna did in documenting this too little known side of California hard bop - the Onzy Matthews Select and the recent Lou Rawls twofer CD on capitol with Mathews arrangements also belong here - I will get me the latter two before it's too late. Sad thing is, once these are all sold out, this music may be unavailable for a long time, as most of the other music he reissued ... God bless Mosaic and Cuscuna. sidewinder Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 Totally agree - Medal required for 'services rendered' in the cause of West Coast hard bop. The Onzy Matthews is definitely on my (perpetually expanding) list. Quote

I so nearly didn't get the Pearson but finally relented, it's really excellent material , actually quite varied in style. The Phantom is killer BN classic IMO. It really is a most unexpected pleasure and has been played through several times since it arrived a week ago. Poor Duke Pearson, he doesn't get any respect. . . . (I really like his Select). mikeweil Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 The Phantom is as great as any Rare Groove album - wonder why it never made it to that series. Quote
jazzbo Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 Water put it out in a really great reissue. Quote

There was also the wonderful West Coast Classics series that he did through Blue Note in the late 1990s. I think it ended after only a dozen titles (didn't do very well sales-wise, as I recall), but it was a fantastic set of reissues. Quote

Maybe you can do a show about it Quote
spinlps Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 Yep, that was an excellent series. Maybe you can do a show about it I'll testify. I picked up four over the last week or so and just need a couple more to complete the series. Baby steps, baby steps... Quote
TedR Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 I have a number of these sessions too and enjoy all of them. I'm still kicking myself for not getting Katanga (sp?). Quote
David Ayers Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 Turning back to the 'bad news', I am glad to learn that some of the 'backordered' sets are soon to reappear. It was a shame that the Young/Basie was unavailable for so long, it seems pretty key and a surefire seller. I'll be picking up one or three of these sets the moment they are back. Quote

It's still (for the moment!) available within the Curtis Amy Select, and it's RECOMMENDED that you get this and fast! Quote
Tom 1960 Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 Although it came as no big surprise, I just received an email confirming a refund on the Pacific Jazz Piano Trios. I guess there's always the "Offering And Looking For" section for those who might wish to part with this set. Fat chance. Quote
Guest Bixieland Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 Well there's one less Curtis Amy Select in stock. And one less Peggy Lee/June Christy too! Quote
Victor Christensen Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 You guys are lucky, I have 10 Mosaic sets, but they have become too expensive for me to buy more, with custom, vat and shipping, but the on the other side, I don't play mine much, I really seem to forget my boxsets much. Vic Hi Vic, Do you keep them in the boxes? I've found I play mine a *lot* more by taking them out of the boxes and putting the jewel cases on the shelf with other cds. greg mo Quote

Vic Ah well... the US$ is so cheap these days that even with VAT and post taxes added, Mosaic sets are still cheaper nowadays than they ever were! The cheap $ easily makes up for any taxes, even for the lack of surface shipping option for orders over 100$! Quote
