Clunky Posted February 27, 2024 Report Posted February 27, 2024 Latest arrival from Newcastle John Pope——Citrintas——-(New jazz & improvised music recordings) Not sure what prompted buying this other than hearing some nice sounding clips on Bandcamp. It’s a soulful quintet ( no piano or guitar) . Grooves nicely and makes a good first impression. Hope that doesn’t sound like feint praise as the music strikes me as accessible but still adventurous. Any one else heard of this group. Quote

Д.Д. Posted February 28, 2024 Report Posted February 28, 2024 Been listening to Biggi Vinkeloe lately, she is such a clever player. https://peeteruuskyla.bandcamp.com/album/the-forgotten-song And this one too: https://biggivinkeloe.bandcamp.com/album/maghzen-2 Quote
optatio Posted February 28, 2024 Report Posted February 28, 2024 More Biggi Vinkeloe - saw her in Göttingen ... Quote

T.D. Posted April 15, 2024 Report Posted April 15, 2024 Listening on bandcamp, going to purchase. Trio w. Michael Bisio, Newman Taylor Baker. Bisio regularly hosts music events not far from me and I've often heard him live with Shipp in various configurations. Quote
mjazzg Posted April 15, 2024 Report Posted April 15, 2024 I bought the 5CD box set of [ahmed], two discs in and it's a blast. They're certainly developing a signature sound, possibly not for everyone, that's taking the acoustic quartet to places it rarely visits. https://ahmedquartet.bandcamp.com/album/giant-beauty Quote
jazzbo Posted April 15, 2024 Report Posted April 15, 2024 I ordered that yesterday, looking forward to it. Quote

Based on the bandcamp site quoting price in Swedish Krona (SEK), I assume Sweden. I initially stopped there, BUT on review the shipping fee is actually quite reasonable, although I expect the effective exchange rate (net of credit card or Paypal surcharge) to be less favorable than quoted: "that’s $45.69 USD, plus $9.59 shipping for United States." T.D. Posted April 18, 2024 Report Posted April 18, 2024 Me too. I put one in my cart to check shipping costs and was pleasantly surprised. Second time it's happened recently: I bought some CDs direct from Graindelavoix (classical vocal ensemble) in Belgium and US postage was also reasonable. The package was cheaper than it would've been buying from US dealers. 👍 Quote

I checked (my most likely suspects: DMG, Squidco, DG and Forced Exposure) yesterday and did not find any US dealers stocking the Ahmed box. Although Dusty Groove showed an upcoming 2-LP set on Astral Spirits (iirc) that might be a subset of the box. Edited April 18, 2024 by T.D. Quote

I bought my copy from Seymour Wright in person the other day and had a very pleasant short chat with him. He was very pleased with how both the box set and the AS double LP have come out. I haven't listened to the LP release yet. Quote
