Kan Mikami / John Edwards / Alex Neilson - Live at Cafe OTO

https://otoroku.bandcamp.com/album/live-at-cafe-oto-3

Anyone familiar with this album? I downloaded it semi-randomly from bandcamp (it's on the Otoroku label of course) and I'm loving it. It's basically a Japanese bluesman "singing" in a more experimental setting.

It reminded me of Keiji Haino's Black Blues album (the soft one).

Just to let folks know that OtoRoku downloads are also available directly from Cafe Oto and generally at lower cost as you're not paying Bandcamp 15%.

I like Lucid by Micah Thomas, it's that group of people around Immanuel Wilkins, but by their standards it's relatively free...

Good label.

Smyth, whose label it is, played the Vortex last month. Sadly I wasn't able to get to it

Mopomoso still happens on a monthly basis at the Vortex.

It was run by John Russell before his death but I don't know who took up the baton.

As mentioned in the link, used to be at the much missed Red Rose club in Finsbury Park. Trade Union club with cheap beer!

Now is about the time of year that I need to ramp up my new listening and purchases, a lot left to hear. But so far these are some standouts:

Josh Berman Trio - Everybody Else's Life, Too (Corbett vs. Dempsey) - almost certain to be album of the year for me
Steve Beresford/Pierpaolo Martino/Mark Sanders - Be S-Mart (Confront)
Ahmed - Plays Monk (Otoroku)
Ran Blake - Voices (Tzadik)
Greg Kelley/Yoona Kim - Distractions For Trumpet & Ajaeng (Relative Pitch)
Amanda Irrazabal - Imprimiendo (Relative Pitch)
Goal Weight - Keep Telling Yourself That (Relative Pitch)
The Handover - New Old Medicine (Sublime Frequencies)
Yvone Rogers - The Button Jar (Pyroclastic)
Pascal Niggenkemper Ensemble Tuvalu - d'une rive à l'autre (Subran)

Looking forward to/need to pick up: Rempis Outskirts & Ballister + Luke Stewart discs, upcoming Kris Davis Trio, some of the latest Fundacja discs, upcoming Melford Fire & Water on RogueArt, new Zooid, two new Random Acoustics titles, Michael Moore Universal Quartet, Stephan Crump and Brandon Seabook on Out of Your Head

In terms of archival releases:

Cecil Taylor New Unit - Words & Music (Fundacja Sluchaj!)
Evan Parker/Paul Rogers/Louis Moholo - Tebugo (Jazz In Britain)
Julius Hemphill/Marty Ehrlich - Circle The Heart (Relative Pitch)
Marion Brown - Live In Europe 1968 & 1972 (NoBusiness)
Pierre Favre Trio - Bird Food (Songs)
Johari Salleh - Jazz Dari Angkasapuri (Audible Beauty)

Just put in my order for the very exciting new Schlippenbach et al disc on CvsD and am looking forward to the upcoming Irene Schweizer solo from 1986 on Intakt. Eventually need to make an order for all the new Formalibera LPs (2 Tchicai, CJQ with Peacock & Murray, Hugh Steinmetz)
