duaneiac Posted January 6, 2021 Report Posted January 6, 2021 Wow hey, it's Noel Jewkes on sax! I forgot he was on this album. He's long been a mainstay on the SF bay area jazz scene. It seems like it's been years since I heard that name. I hope he's doing well. And here's today math puzzle for you -- if Mr. Jewkes celebrated his 80th birthday last year, then how old was he in 1965? Quote

jazzbo Posted January 6, 2021 Report Posted January 6, 2021 Felt like listening to more live music so. . . Sonny Stitt "Jazz at the Hi-Hat, Volume 2" Roulette cd. Still playing tenor is my favorite Stitt. Nice mastering from Malcolm Addey on this. Quote

Those patches on Mbenza's jacket are interesting. I wonder what the story is behind those Oyster ones is. Quote
Rabshakeh Posted January 6, 2021 Report Posted January 6, 2021 Bells for the South Side (ECM, 2017) by Roscoe Mitchell. I hadn’t listened to this one in a year or so, during which time Tyshawn Sorey has really exploded in stature. Listening to this record now, I can hear so much of his sound and input throughout the record. There’s some amazing players and compositions on these two discs, but the combination of Mitchell and Sorey is very special. Quote
