Smith Posted February 26 Report Posted February 26 Not to turn this into a shipping update thread but, since I have been bitching, I should mention that I got a UPS tracking number emailed to me yesterday. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted February 26 Report Posted February 26 I would like to at least hear the Mateen. Quote
T.D. Posted February 26 Report Posted February 26 (edited) Likewise here for the Nate Morgan. Guess I have to hope for bandcamp some day. Edited February 26 by T.D. Quote
sidewinder Posted February 28 Report Posted February 28 My subscription CDs have just arrived courtesy UPS after being stuck for a week in their warehouse for UK Border Force checks. A saga - but all ends well. Starring off with 2/25/79 and it sounds great. Quote

djcavanagh Posted March 5 Report Posted March 5 Getting the rest of my CDs has spurred me to finally listen to volume 1. Unfortunately the last two tracks on the second disc (To The Great House & Lift Every Voice) skip. I've moved house since I ripped the disc and have no idea where it is so can't check if the problem was just with the initial rip. I don't suppose anyone who has volume one could send me lossless copies of those two tracks? Thanks Denis Quote

medjuck Posted March 30 Report Posted March 30 (edited) I was listening to the local college radio station and the announcer mentioned that Nimbus West was started here in Santa Barbara and recorded at least one of their records at the local Lobero Theater (where Charles Lloyd plays every year-- often on his birthday). This article suggests that, though they did record the piano solos at the Lobero, the company was based in LA. Anyone know if the Lobero Theater is even the one in SAnta Barbara? https://www.analogplanet.com/content/horace-tapscott-tom-albach-and-story-nimbus-west-records-part-2 Edited March 30 by medjuck Quote
Niko Posted March 31 Report Posted March 31 I had a brief look at Steven Isoardi's The Dark Tree: Tom Albach was living in Santa Barbara when he got involved in 1977/78, recorded the early sessions in LA but the solos with Tapscott at the Lobero in Santa Barbara. Whether he and the label moved to Los Angeles at some point I don't know (in 1989, they left California for Amsterdam…) Quote

clifford_thornton Posted Monday at 02:46 PM Report Posted Monday at 02:46 PM ugh. that sucks. hope they can get this crap figured out again. I figured I'd buy the Sabir if and when Dusty stocks it. Quote

felser Posted Monday at 09:07 PM Report Posted Monday at 09:07 PM (edited) While I'd love to see more, I'm thankful for what they did get issued/reissued during the CD era. Never dreamed I would see the titles I have from them. Tom Albach, and Matt after him, surely did this latter-day work as a labor of love rather than a big profit-making venture? And really, is there that much essential music from the Nimbus West Catalog that has not gotten reissued? I know there are some Tapscott titles (especially solo), and a few stray L.A.-based titles from others that have not made it back out (and I don't much care about the later European recordings, which are a whole different thing), but the bulk of it has been made available to those who jumped on it. I celebrate and give thanks for a glass that is 80% full. Edited Monday at 10:02 PM by felser Quote

I partially preordered them in hopes it would lead to more releases. Quote
