What is the Oldest Mosaic Records Release That You've Acquired, But Not Yet Played?

I have a backlog of Mosaic sets that I haven't gotten around to playing, so I am in the process of remedying that, right now by listening to the 2022 Freddie Hubbard Blue Note and Impulse set. I have 17 unopened factory sealed sets, plus two others acquired used. 

The oldest unplayed release I own, acquired new when it was issued in 1999, is this set:

None for me.  But I've only got seven Mosaic sets -- excluding partial sets & Mosaic Selects. 

So I've listened to all of them.  Some more extensively than others, of course!   

 

I bet that Kid Ory set is a lot of fun!    You should break into it!

What's your logic for prioritization? Personally I'm a FIFO man, meaning the oldest set would be the first one exported to my ears.

I have a high volume of new releases, plus the purchases. I am not organized enough to listen to stuff in the order received. I am cutting back on purchases and looking to thin out some of the backlog. 

My big worry is that one of these sealed sets has a defective or missing CD.

By the time I cracked open the Ahmad Jamal box, it was already out of print and discs 2 and 3 were defective.  Scott sent me a replacement disc 2, but didn't have any disc 3 remaining.

They don't go up on my shelf until I've listened to every track, but then, I'm retired, and I have the time to listen to them as soon as they grace my front porch.

I have not played all of the tracks on a few Mosaic sets but I have definitely played quite a few tracks on all of them.

The one that took me the longest to to get to was the Stitt Roost box. So much music it's daunting.

The BeeHive set is one where I probably haven't played much of but only because I had the LPs for many years before buying it. I had to buy it too, as I really bugged Michael Cuscuna to release it for a long time.

Same here. The only one that I am sure I haven't listened to every disc is the Teagarden part of the Beiderbecke/Trumbauer/Teagarden set.

I've listened to every disc of every Mosaic set that I own but there are a good number of discs that I haven't listened to twice.   I have only listened once to every disc in the Bing Crosby box of CBS Radio Recordings.  I bought it used because the price was right.  I enjoyed listening to it once.  But if I am in the mood to listen to straight Bing Crosby (maybe a few times a year), I always reach for something else.  

I am not sure if I will ever listen twice to a few of the discs in the new Mosaic V-Disc Big Band set.

I think that was my first impression too, but I didn't really give it a chance.

I actually like the JJ Johnson Mosaic box more for Bobby Jaspar than anything else. When I do play that set, it's always one of the sessions with Jaspar.

For a few years up until recently I was paying very low rent on a place out in the country where I took care of the owners dog, mowed his rather extensive lawn, etc. (Sadly, the dog died and the owners daughter decided to move back in and kicked me out). I used the extra disposable income to buy nearly all the Mosaic sets I hadn't bought new.  Most have gotten a pretty good listen but I still have a big backlog of sets I haven't finished. Every day I pick out something to explore. It's tough work but somebody's got to do it!

. I love my rural/sylvan living situation, though it's not as cheap as it used to be for me as my wife retired and I was voted in as taking care of a lot more financially. I hope you can get "back to the country."
