brownie
Looks like Larance Marable passed away earlier this month. Charlie Haden had these comments on this sad news!

romualdo
RIP Larance - he had such a standout name Didn't realise I had so much material containing his drumming Edited July 27, 2012 by romualdo
Pete C
And we honor him by spelling his name right!
tranemonk
To me.. among other things he was an integral member of Quartet West. (IMHO one the best bands ever.)
Bluesnik
i have his tenorman album, featuring sonny clarke, james clay and jimmy bond on jazz west.
mjzee
I have a funny story peripherally involving Larance Marable. Sometime in the mid-80's, I was working in the Accounts Payable department of an electronics retailer. I got a call from a Margaret Marable from Pioneer Electronics in California, asking about some late invoices. She was pretty hard-nosed, as these encounters can be. A thought occurred to me, and I asked her "are you related to the jazz musician Larance Marable?". There was a pause, and then she said "He's my father-in-law!". She was thrilled that someone knew of him. From then on, our conversations were very cordial. RIP, Mr. Marable.

mikeweil
Great, swinging drummer - I love that early Teddy Charles session with Wardell Gray where he really drives the band. R.I.P.

Chalupa
RIP. Thanks to Jim S. for recommending the Tenorman album on this board a few years ago.
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez
RIP, a great loss for west coast jazz. i totally saw him once with Quartet West, i think it was way before i knew about all he did, but i definetly nonetheless saw him once
six string
I know I have some music with him drumming outside of Quartet West but damn, I can't think of one at the moment. Even so, if he had only played with QW I would still say he made an important mark in jazz music. Keep on drummin' Larance. Save me a seat! colinmce
Doubtful, that's just a 1998 repackaging of a 1957 session. Or close. I'll feel good about myself if I got those dates right off the top of my head.
Brad
Sorry to hear that, RIP. Tenorman is one of my favorites.

That's probably true. BTW, that was originally released as "Playboys" and it also had Lawrence as the spelling.
