medjuck
Great review of it here: https://thebluemoment.com/ and it's now on Spotify. with pretty good documentation of who's playing on each cut.
Guy Berger
The music on the box really clarified the link between Hemphill and some of Tim Berne’s music (especially Bloodcount) in a way that I didn’t appreciate before.
jk666
I had Amazon gift cards to spend and picked this up last week. Really loving it so far. Props to Marty Ehrlich for putting all of this together.

I'd be interested to know in what sense? I'm not disputing the link, but I have never heard the box set.

I'm not familiar enough with Berne to confirm the above statement but despite that it's a remarkable collection.

JSngry
After you get it, then you can tell! And/but seriously, it's a supremely rewarding collection of musics, with packaging to match. One of those things that if you even halfway think it's for you, it 100% is. and vice-versa.
John L
Yes, the Hemphill box alone almost made 2021 a good year...almost

jk666
Tim Berne studied with Hemphill like Marty Ehrlich did, but I think Tim's long form compositions are closer to the Hemphill esthetic than Marty's. Check out anything by Bloodcount where the tunes can be 20-30 minutes long and just structured enough to keep from devolving into chaos. Yeah, that's what I was thinking about - that and also the contrapuntal texture of the music.

Guy Berger
I’ve made it through most of the box set at this point - am about halfway through disc 6. Spectacularly good music. I wasn’t that into the chamber music (solo piano, string quartet) and the vocal work was tough going, but otherwise I think this is one of my best acquisitions of the past 1-2 years.
