There’s big change in my household now–we adopted from a neighbor a sweet, mellow dachshund-corgi mix male dog who is getting used to us and our house. He’s sweet and loving and a happy dog. Getting our first listening session in . . . starting off with Bill Evans "Top of the Gate" disc 1

Jason Moran is among a growing number of musicians who have been targeted on music streaming platforms by what appear to be AI bots masquerading as the real artists. https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2026/apr/11/ai-impersonating-musicians-spotify

I have a vibration pad to stand on which trains leg muscles without stressing joints in the knees or hip or back. It is reported to have the same effect as jogging on muscle training. No idea which brands may be available in the US.

I've been working on the cues for the new documentary, musical interludes to be inserted into the film. This is called Do Not Go Gentle Into that Operating Room; me on tenor, Ethan Kogan drums, Colson Jimenez bass. All freely improvised:

New Art Pepper Box 1959 - Live at the Cellar
medjuck replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I got this after reading this review: https://thebluemoment.com/2026/03/31/alto-voices-art-pepper-karsten-vogel/. Glad i did, but that is weird about Al Neil. Also I just noticed that there is a ninth number on disc three not listed on the cd, the the box, or the envelope for the disc. -
Tax week hint for those still sleuthing: Track 3: I don't know of any specific Ayler connection but the comparison, or rather inspiration by, seems right. If you have ears for this song to listen again, see if you can pick out the folk forms this sax player is incorporating. It took me a few times but once I picked up on that, the full spectrum of their playing came into much better focus. It's not just angry. There's a lot of different emotions being expressed, and passionately at that. Anyway, I think the folk forms are pretty specific in terms of origin, and if you get them you'll probably get the "where." And then it's probably only a matter of time. Tracks 6 & 9 also not ID'd. Hints on those later if they don't get ID'd.

Bought the Fresh Sound 2 CD set. Love his arrangements for the Jack Nimitz Orchestra.

The Mosaic edition makes no mention of an edit in this recording.

I have several of his cds featuring big band (and singers) but only saw him live playing solo piano. Glad I was able to do that.

It Sucks Getting Old

I started working out regularly when I retired. I hate running, especially in the winter, as it just wrecks my knees and feet, so after trying a few out, I bought a Matrix A30 elliptical machine. I love it. I get on it 45-60 minutes a day. No knee or foot pain, which is great. If you want a low-impact workout, I'd recommend an elliptical. -

I've gone a transport to DAC route for over a decade but I have two friends who two years ago each bought a new cd player they were very happy with. One: https://www.audioadvisor.com/prnt-macd6007?sku=NEW-MACD6007 a review: https://www.whathifi.com/reviews/marantz-cd6007 The other: https://www.audioadvisor.com/prnt-nac538?sku=NEW-NAC538 a review: https://www.whathifi.com/reviews/nad-c-538

Do you have one? I am in the market for a new player. Thanks!
