  2. A bass player friend of mine has a cousin whose last name is Corbisiero, who used to be a Rugby player in England, till he got cancer. He recovered, and now he works for CBS covering Rugby games. I'm gonna ask him who I should pick when go over his house to jam tonight. He said Montreal 40
  3. Today
  4. I only heard the "The The" collaboration fairly recently. Some good stuff there! I've always liked his approach to guitar playing and phrasing. A fairly unique sound.
  5. To me Understanding is an OK album and cover. Blue John is my favorite Patton album, but it has the worst cover. Mothership is a great album and I'm an outlier in that I like most of the LY/rainbow series covers, maybe nbecause I own most of them that way having bought them as cutouts back in the day.
  6. Killer album (and cover)!

  8. That is intriguing (that the 1982 recording is floating around). I have no idea what they mean either. Even stranger, the 1982 recording is available for streaming on Naxos Jazz (though I think Naxos is generally not allowed in the US but it is in Canada). So maybe its scarcity is greatly exaggerated...
  9. I had no idea the 1982 recording was "in a legal limbo". Definitely worth hearing. It is on Youtube. I bought the Enja 2-CD set several years ago and there was no scarcity premium; discogs currently has it as low as US$10 + shipping, (which might not help you in Canada, of course). I'll try to listen to the forthcoming BBC release, but it'll have to be really good to merit a purchase. Thanks for posting.
  10. the cover photo on the Mother Ship CD is all right; I have the 1980 LT version which is a bit less inspiring. Neither match what a 1960s design could have looked like.
  11. Huh! I have the 1982 LP set, interesting music that I haven't dug out in too long. What are the legal troubles that have buried it since, I wonder?
  12. Word John. Those were the days. Yes they were. Those were the days.
  13. There are some titles there that I really like. But I've been shifting to downloads for the most part due to space issues. I think the concepts of the Tone Poet and Classic series are great, and I hope they continue doing them. Helluva legacy from this label.
  14. This Guardian article discussing this release makes it sound pretty intriguing. I'll see about streaming it and maybe picking it up. https://www.theguardian.com/music/2025/nov/12/jazz-legend-mike-westbrook-laurence-olivier Doesn't mean that I wouldn't like to compare it to the studio recording (from 1982) if that ever sees the light of day.
  15. We are blessed to have lived through the 1980's-2000's golden era of Blue Note reissues, to have 95% of everything meaningful from the label made available to us, which, along with Fantasy doing the same for Prestige and Riverside, was a dream come true. Glad for any extra goodies David Weiss and the current BN regime can send our way, but it's a cherry on top of the sundae compared to what we already have.
  16. I'd love to hear it some day.
  17. Given its appeal to fans of Strata-East and related, it seems ridiculous not to release the unissued Tyrone Washington album at this point. It is a really good date, too...
  18. Pretty wild version on this album: https://www.discogs.com/release/2090180-Eddie-Harris-Live-In-Berlin-At-The-Jazzclub-Quasimodo
  19. I hope to see it someday. (From https://destinationsunknownjazz.wordpress.com/2019/01/18/musings-and-imaginary-cover-art-of-some-still-unreleased-blue-note-sessions/)
  20. Yes! One of the best bands Mongo ever had! One track was omitted on the LP, Saoco. Conversation in Drums is the last 1 1/2 minutes of it. The complete track is on YouTube:
  21. Great to see you Evan! Montreal - 50 is already taken. The picks are bunched together this year. Still available... Montreal - Anything 30 and below, 40, 70 and above. Sask - Anything 35 and below, 65 and above. As we approach the end of the year, Santa Claus is on the lookout for boys and girls to put on his naughty list. And now comes JSngry, who volunteers by picking 34 for his tiebreaker. The Command Centre, upon further review, has ruled that Sangrey's tiebreaker will be 35.
