  1. Today
  2. I liked her early records on JMT. They were very forward-thinking at the time.
  3. April 6 Manfred Schoof - 1936 - 90 today!
  4. season finale of Dark Winds
  5. Ken Dryden

    Benny Carter

That would be terrific! I did get to see Benny Carter perform once some time in the late 1980s or early 1990s, he seemed ageless. Too bad I wasn't yet on the Scarecrow Press publicity list when the two Benny Carter volumes were first published. They put out a lot of great jazz books.
  6. These university presses and some specialty publishers I guess are the only ones willing to produce this sort of thing and the audience is not vast so the books are always really pricey. I found volume 2 for about 9 bucks and I've been reading the first volume on internet archive and decided I want a hard copy of volume 1. I came across what appears to be the second edition of both volumes on ebay for about $35 and plunked for it. So I may end up with an extra 2nd volume which I could pass along to you.
  7. I went to the theatre to see Apocalypse Now. I assumed it was the original but it was the 3 hour Final Cut! I enjoyed it. A lot of people say it hits the sweet spot between the original release and Redux. The trip up the river takes even longer, but I think that makes sense when you think about the source material (Heart of Darkness).

  9. Grateful Dead “Dave’s Picks Vol. 51” 3 disc set, disc 1 April 13, 1971, at the Scranton Catholic Youth Center in Scranton, Pennsylvania
  10. Ken Dryden

    Benny Carter

I found volume 1 for like $5 in the past couple of years. Wish Volume 2 had been in the same store.
  11. This afternoon: ... plus disc one of the Beiderbecke-Trumbauer/Teagarden Mosaic:
  12. Check. And note the rhythm section roots to Count Basie with Gus Johnson & Freddie Green. They swing like hell on this song to carry Vito, who didn't record another solo record until 2003. Yikes. This particular track taken from this CD.
  13. Happy Easter everyone!
  14. 4. It's "Eye strain" from Vito Price "Swingin' the loop". Very nice tune.
  15. And here. I discovered them relatively late in my jazz listening career and was surprised this music wasn’t more known and more acknowledged. Their sound and ideas are truly original.
  16. This is just side 1 right? Sound doesn't bother me and the tunes are pretty good.
  17. Songs 3, 4, 6 and 9 are the remaining tunes not ID'd yet.
  18. I saw some challenges yesterday where calls were overturned by 0.4 to 0.1 inches.
  19. La Banda & Pino Minafra - Musica Sacra Della Settimana Santa (Enja)
  20. Only from your earlier BFT track. It"s what led me to get this live album actually. I had forgotten that you shared this specific track though. I liked it then, so I'm not surprised I picked this one off the album. For anyone who doesn't recall it, this was on BFT 239 when we all donated a track to make a full BFT. Which was a really great idea (from one Dan Gould if I'm not mistaken).
