Hard to remember that these late ones are the same Sonny Stitt as was recording on Prestige back in the early 50's

Whereas my mother's dementia meant that not only was she unable to use the phone for the last two years of her life but that she was also scared and intimidated by it. I therefore stopped trying to speak with her on the phone as it was far too upsetting for her. I also worked with people with dementia who no longer had any concept of time of day. They would telephone people at any and all times be that 3.00pm or 3.00am. Everyone's experience of dementia is very individual. There are reasons why restricting access to a telephone is maybe not as cruel as it may sound without knowing the full context.

It's probably been mentioned before, but Soulville is a great album.

I didn’t know The Visitors had a third album. I’ve heard "In My Youth" because it was released on CD, and I think "Rebirth" hasn’t been released on CD, but I’ve heard it too, and it’s one of my favorites. I’d really like to give it a listen. I think they were very talented composers.

Lately I have been reading The Complete Robot, a compilation of Isaac Asimov's robot series short stories. His Foundation series is engaging and popular but in many ways I think Asimov's Robot series and his 3 laws of robotics are more significant. I am particularly struck by the way Asimov's musings about autonomous control of society by large artificial intelligences become extremely relevant now in light of the advent of artificial intelligence capabilities way beyond what was possible when Asimov wrote his stories. Asimov wrote about the consequences of allowing an autonomous, artificial intelligence to control vehicles, machines, space ships, cities, governments, etc. and now we are seeing a lot of news about autonomous AI weapons systems, etc. "The Evitable Conflict" (1950) is a particularly good story in this regard. You can read it here: http://cdn.michaelgeist.ca/.../04/The-Evitable-Conflict.pdf -
I recently heard Ben play “Confirmation” in 1964 and was surprised by how good he was. The theme was great, and the solo was in top form. I know there are many who disagree, but personally, I feel that Byas never quite managed to fully embrace the modern style (especially in his rhythmic groove), whereas Webster seemed more flexible with new rhythmic concepts. https://storyvillerecords.bandcamp.com/album/at-ronnie-scott-1964

Very good album (Joe Bonner is a big plus) which AFAIK never received CD reissue. I'll go for the download in the absence of a CD reissue.
