I'm going to give that a listen. Thanks for the prompt. Are you familiar with this one, @jazzbo? It also features Marc Copland & Gary Peacock. While it's not exactly recent -- it's from 2006 -- it's a wonderful record.

With Marc Copeland and Joey Baron. More and more I am amazed by the late Gary Peacock. He was an amazing technician and also so very lyrical and musical.

Yes, and that's good to see. Between their in-house "Jazz Dispensary" series and Zev Feldman's reissues, it appears that (at least SOME) of the Muse catalog will be made available again. Yeah, that's an excellent set. Since I have it, I won't be ordering the vinyl. (The CDs are perfectly sufficient for me.) But I'm still glad that the vinyl issue will be available for others. Also, I think Perception is the strongest of the four albums in that set.

Thanks a lot, mjzee! Lots of interesting music to come. Looking forward especially to the new Rich Perry album.

What live music are you going to see tonight?
Steve Reynolds replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Recency bias but Webb Crawford last night played as great on guitar as anyone I’ve ever seen. I’ve seen Webb many times over the past 2 years but last night Webb was driving that trio madly. 23, 12 & 13 minute improvisations. Wowza tonight Webb & Chuck duo trio with Michael Foster, Leila Boudreuil & Corsano Leila is an incredible cellist. This trio should be great. Early 6:00 gig in Brooklyn. -
O.K., regardless of what Lord says, if I got the above findings right, the session of 25 April 1952 should read like this in the discographies from now on ?

Good news for those who have been waiting for this set to come back in stock. I recently asked Mosaic about its status and received the following response today: "Thanks for the interest. There have been issues and they have all been settled. We have the components in house and will be sending an e-mail in 2 weeks to announce order availability. FINALLY!" -
loaded up on more Lester Young bootlegs during lunch break... two more Ambrosias, one on Charlie Parker records, and this one...

Anyone for Art Clokey proto-Gumby jazz performed by the Mel Powell trio found this The jazz music on Art Clokey's short film Gumbasia was the drum-dominated instrumental "Don-Que-Dee" by The Mel Powell Trio. This 1954 recording by the trio accompanied the claymation film, helping Art Clokey secure the funding needed to produce the first Gumby short.

Horace Tapscott & Pan Afrikan People Arkestra - Live at IUCC 11/2678 2CD
Joakim replied to jcam_44's topic in New Releases
Does anyone have any insider info on what is going on at Nimbus West right now? I know the website is down again. I'm one of the increasingly melancholy customers who paid for the whole IUCC package vols. 2-11 back in May 2023. I've been getting the occasional email from Nimbus, and I also paid for expedited shipping. I never hear back when I email Matt. I'll be sad to miss out on the rest of the series, and I can't afford to pay for the individual copies I see are available on various online stores.. -
Cool and oh so quiet. I love living here. . . so few neighbors, so many trees. I hope I never have to move. Starting off by re-listening to disc 1 of Mosaic’s new release, “The Complete Pharoah Sanders Theresa Recordings.” A mixed bag of material, all of it nice to listen to in this calm period of the day. 140×140 6.05 KB

What rock music are you listening to? Non-Jazz, Non-Classical.
BFrank replied to EKE BBB's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Is that because of the heat in your region? 😆 -
What do I have to do to make this image show? What I was trying to show was a picture I had taken of Pharoah at a rock festival. Mark Stryker's excellent notes mentions Sander's influence on Kamasi Washington. Right after I took the photo I can't seem to reproduce I walked about 300 feet to see Washington who was beginning to play at a different stage. The influence was obvious.
