  4. If you want detective series with a twist, try the first Glen Cook Garrett P.I. book, "Sweet Silver Blues". Garrett is a human detective living in a world populated by gnomes. I read them (there are 14 of them) a long time ago and remember enjoying them.
  5. Johnny Hodges And Wild Bill Davis (Volume 1 - 2 / 1965 – 1966). Jazz Tribune N° 1. RCA ND 89765 [France 1992]
  6. Trimming Alan Grant's announcements is always a wise move. He got ridiculously pompous by the time he hosted Four Queens Jazz Night From Las Vegas.
  7. David Crosby “If Only I Could Remember my Name” Mobile Fidelity Lab SACD I had to hear the epic “Cowboy Movie.” I love this one, and also the alternate version with Neil Young’s guitar in place of Jerry Garcia’s.
  8. Joe Cuba – Cocinando La Salsa (Cookin' The Sauce)
  9. On to some of my favorite current cats on this excellent cd–drummer Johnathan Blake, alto saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins and vibraphonist Joel Ross. Johnathan Blake “Homeward Bound” Blue Note cd
  10. An early start to the day, and looking out on the new snow. Decided to play this new arrival. I have this music in several formats, the Mosaic LP version, a newer (and crisper) cd version, and this earlier cd version that sounds a lot like a straight unfutzed with LP transfer. The music is truly “timeless” if there ever were timeless jazz. Lester Young leading great outfits and the joy and skill shine forth. It’s been too longe since I’ve listened to these tracks! “Giants of the Tenor Sax: Lester “Prez” Young & Friends” Commodore cd IMG300×297 11.2 KB The awesome Kansas City Six and Kansas City Five recordings. Recorded on September 27, 1938 in New York or March 18, 1938 in New York
  11. That's why I don't spend a lot of time planning my schedule until much later. Things get changed, added, removed, etc.
  12. Ts find Symphonies 3,4 * Sinfonietta For String Orchestra (André Cluytens, Orchestre de la Société des Concerts du Conservatoir)
  13. Chester Himes has a whole series of detective novels, starting with A Rage in Harlem.
  14. Mal had moved on for a decade (70’s) and in the 80’s he moved sorta back sometimes to standard material.
  15. Similar. But not the same.
  16. I would love t I would love to have seen/heard this. To me, Cacavas was the secret sauce that made Green on Red stand out, and I was a big fan of their work with him ,and of Dream Syndicate. And Cacavas's solo albums are very interesting indeed (much more so than what Green on Red did without him).
  17. Sonny Jurgensen has died at 91. RIP. I enjoyed listening to him with Sam Huff and Frank Herzog on the Redskins' radio broadcasts. I had his bubble gum card in 1961! Legendary NFL QB Sonny Jurgensen, who starred in Washington and Philadelphia, dies at 91
