  2. So that settles it. (Or back to the starting grid? ) However, if all the names mentioned by Leonard Feather were in the lineup(s), though apparently never all of them at the same time, and if these weren't all the musicians present (according to your post he did not mention Wynton Kelly and Aaron Bell present on 25/04/52), then the "different dates" must include the one from 4 August 1951 because that is the only one that has Earl Knight in the lineup (with "Neenah" and "Lester Leaps In" recorded at both possible dates indicated above). And as you have seen in the "Lestorian Notes", several more Birdland Broadcasts exist from April/May 1952 with the same lineup as on 25/04/52. But none of the tunes recorded at these subsequent dates match those of 25/04/52.
  3. Just finished reading Jonathon Grasse"s "Jazz Revolutionary", which I got through interlibrary loan. The Amazon review is pretty much on target. After 50 pages of family history and discussion of Eric's early musical experiences, Grasse's approach is to methodically track and analyze Eric's recording and major concerts. That said, I found it informative but not great reading.
  4. I saw Dersu Uzala back in the early '80s, not knowing what to expect, and was blown away (cinema, big screen). Much later watched a DVD and it didn't have the same magic. The Spike Lee remake of AK's High and Low, one of my all-time favorites, is coming soon. But I don't think I could stand to watch it.
  5. Has anyone else gone onto one of the streaming services and selected one standard and listened to all the different recordings of that tune? Today I did this today for two, "Moon River" and "Summertime." I wanted to see how many sounded different than others. Very few stray from the original version.

    Steve Lacy

I'm also sparse on Lacy. Irene Aebi's vocals are an absolute deal breaker for me, and I don't need multiple CD's of him doing Monk, so that leaves me quartets with Waldron and groups with Steve Potts but without Aebi as my sweet spots.
  7. Absolute bargain. Recommended !
  8. Anyone seen Eddington? Might see tomorrow but it seems to have mixed reviews. Someone raving about it on the radio this morning but only 2 stars in the Guardian.

  11. Thanks. Those are the 2 discographies I was working with. I'm pretty sure Feather wasn't present and I suspect that the cuts broadcast are from 2 or three different dates.
  12. Yeah, if he's doing all that work, he should get paid

    Steve Lacy

You guys are way ahead of me. I maybe have a dozen Lacy cd's I've picked up all over the place, but I am waaay back here: Have hardly got to it all.
