I continue to be amused at how the "hard edged" tenor tones of the time required warning for general listeners. If they only knew what was coming!

I downsized even further, with a pair of “vintage” Mirage SM-6 speakers that I bought for 65€. Mirage was a Canadian brand, and these were made in the early 1980s. Interestingly I could not find any reference of this model on the internet. SM-5 model is referenced and seems to be very nice as well. https://radique.com/product/vintage-mirage-bookshelf-speakers-with-exceptional-sound-sm-5/ These speakers are easy to listen to, and provide a balanced, dynamic, sound with good detail.

Dug out this Mosaic LP set. I have most of it on Blue Note cds (which I confess I haven’t played in quite some time) and on the Masters of Jazz Media 7 Bechet discs (I have all of those) . . .but these LPs sound really good and are in mint shape. Bechet was such an individual and quite an influential artist, being a model and inspiration for Duke Ellington among others, and mentor for a very young Johnny Hodges. Alfred Lion did his fledgling label a good deed by capturing Bechet at this time. Listening to LP 1

Discogs lists a few at varying prices. But I found a used copy in good condition from an Amazon seller for twenty bucks. 🙂 Thanks. I remember hearing Sun Treader on the radio during my later school days. -

Gabrielle Cavassa "Diavola" Blue Note cd Released yesterday, her debut as a leader on Blue Note. I enjoyed her work on the Joshua Redman cd and the Adonis Rose Trio cd, so I pre-ordered this one. Good players supporting her: Jeff Parker on guitar, Larry Grenadier on bass, Brian Blade on drums, Paul Cornish on piano, and Joshua Redman on tenor saxophone.

Not Jimmy Giuffre.

Odd group on this one--lots of Ray Nance violin! And a rhythm section of Chick Corea, Richard Davis, and Elvin Jones, at least on the first couple of tracks.

What live music are you going to see tonight?

Last night. Bobby Previte "Second Arrow" band. Angelika Sanchez on piano and keyboards, Matt Bauder on tenor sax, bass clarinet and flute, Wendy Eisenberg on electric guitar, Jerome Harris on bass and Bobby on drums. The Local in Saugerties. New LP is out. -
5. Oh, it's a clarinet, maybe Jimmy Giuffre?
-
Alvaro Enrigue: Now I Surrender

Obviously correct on tracks 2 & 4l Track 5 is not a bass clarinet. Track 6 is not Harrison-Blanchard.
-
#6 is April in Paris but I don't have this recording or recognize the artists. The Thad Jones version (from The Magnificent...) is the one imprinted on my memory.
-
2. It's "God bless the child" from his masterpiece "To my queen", with George Tucker. Just I got a japanese vinyl reissue in the listening stack. Another batch: 4. Great hard-bop. I got this: "The rat race blues" by Gigi Gryce on Prestige. With Richard Williams, tp; Richard Wyands, p; Julian Euell, b; Mickey Roker, dr. 5. I like a lot this bass clarinet, but no idea who is. 6. Not my fav style, sounds to me like neo-bop from the 80s, maybe Harrison-Blanchard?

Obviously track 1 is "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes. Track 2 is Walt Dickerson, but Richard DAvis is not present. Track 3 does not feature Kenny Burrell nor Rufus Reid.
