I woke up a bit ago and couldn’t shut my brain off. The constant dripping of water from the roof (about ten inches of snow and ice melting consistently) just outside the window from my head didn’t help me slip back into slumber. . . so I decided to get up and listen. Never a waste of time or attention to listen to music, for me at least. Started off with Earl "Father’ Hines “Reunion in Brussels” on Red Baron cd. What a force Hines was! An endless stream of swing with passion.

"Of all the musicians, Bechet was to me the very epitome of jazz. He represented and executed everything that had to do with the beauty of it all, and everything he played in his whole was original. I honestly think he was the most unique man ever to be in this music—but don't ever try and compare because when you talk about Bechet you just don't talk about anyone else." —Duke Ellington

My wife is out of town, and I didn't have any other commitments today. So I spent my entire day holed up in my man cave, listening to music. It's been fun, soaking it all in. But I feel myself getting tired, and I've got work tomorrow. So I'm wrapping my day-long listening session with this quiet Kenny Burrell album. Music, music, music. Hooray for music!

Between 2008 and 2011, I compiled an album-based discography of Richie Beirach's recordings -- both as a leader and sideman. It was a useful tool for me back then, as I'd decided to track down most of his albums. If anyone would like a copy of the discography, I'd be happy to share it (in .PDF format). Just ping me via private message if you'd like to have a copy. Obviously, it's out of date. But it's still useful.

agreed. Independent free jazz/improv labels aren't all boutique, though some certainly are.

Weighing in very late, but I agree with one of the local Minneapolis music critics who weighed in on Tell Tale Signs that Dylan’s outtakes were better than most bands’ greatest hits.
-
Agreed -- big fan of his sessions with Masahiko Togashi too.
